4th inning explosion powers Ada baseball past W-G

By Cort Reynolds

Playing at home, the Ada High School baseball team rode a 10-run fourth inning to run-rule visiting Waynesfield-Goshen 15-0 on a cold and windy Tuesday evening at the War Memorial Park diamond.

Ada improved to 4-5 with the lopsided five-inning win, their second victory in a row. Meanwhile, W-G dropped to 1-5 with the non-league defeat.

Bulldog senior hurler Kadin Phipps struck out six and allowed just three hits over five innings to earn his second win of the season.

The Bulldogs led 5-0 after a four-run third inning. They then blew the game open with a season-best 10-run explosion in the fourth frame to put the game well out of reach.

"The fourth inning was the inning we were waiting for all season," said Bulldog head coach Jason Campbell. Ada sent 15 batters to the plate in the key frame, plating 10 runs on the strength of seven hits.

Ada out-hit W-G, 10-3. Junior Jacob Sutherly led the victors with a double and three singles, while driving in three runs and scoring twice.

Junior Spencer Wall scored three runs and contributed two singles, a walk and a triple. He also drove home four runs.

Junior Roman Snyder plated two runs with two hits, and scored twice. Zach Neiswander smacked two hits, scored a run and had one RBI.

Freshman Levi Green walked twice and scored two runs, and classmate Kaine Fisher added two hits, two runs and one RBI.

Levi Sousley knocked in one run, scored once and singled. Lester Amos was hit by a pitch twice and drove home a run.

Phipps added a single, scored a run and had one RBI.
