NEW BREMEN__The Ada High School girls swim teams finished a solid seventh at the 16-team Celina Invitational held at the New Bremen YMCA Saturday, January 13.

Junior standout Lily Baumgartner won the 100-yard butterfly (58.32) and 100 backstroke (61.84) races to compile 32 of the 65 Bulldog girls points.

The Bulldog boys finished 12th out of 16 teams with 26 points. Ada finished 10th in the combined girls/boys team standings.

Ottawa-Glandorf swept both the boys and girls team titles. O-G edged St. Marys 274-268.5 for the girls crown. The Titan boys also beat out the second-place Roughriders 229-204.5 to claim first.

O-G won the combined teams event championship, with St. Marys second and Wapakoneta third.

“We had a few minor errors due to slippery blocks and walls, but I feel they adapted well and did the very best they could,” said Ada head coach Ashley Robey.

“Kaden Clum powered through both his 50 and 100 free (races) without the use of his goggles, and still finished close to his best times,” she noted.

“If there’s anything to be said about these swimmers, it’s that they don’t quit,” Robey summed up. “They always push through and finish. I couldn’t be more proud of their performances and sportsmanship thus far.”

Freshman Tim Chrissobolis earned 10 points by finishing eighth in the 100 butterfly (1:10.42), and eighth in the 500 freestyle (6:00.31).

Sophomore Alyssa Nau came in ninth in the 100 breaststroke (1:27.28).

Freshman Jacob Szippl touched 11th in the 100 freestyle (59.0).

Sophomore Lydia Demascio ended up 10th in the 50 free (30.78), and touched 11th in the 100 backstroke (1:14.81).

Both the 200 medley relay Bulldog girls (2:09.64) and Ada boys (2:08.93) quartets finished seventh.

Ada swims at the Colonel Crawford Sprints next Saturday morning, January 20. The league meet is also hosted by CC Jan. 27.

“We still had several time drops and heat winners Saturday, and I’m looking forward to watching them perform next weekend at the Colonel Crawford meet,” said Robey.
