ONU women's golf finishes 10th at Jekyll Island Collegiate

JEKYLL ISLAND, Ga.__The Ohio Northern women's golf team finished 10th of 18 teams at the Jekyll Island Collegiate hosted by Oglethorpe (Ga.) University on Friday-Sunday, March 22-24.

The Basics

The Polar Bears finished the 54-hole tournament with a 328-311-336—975.

#10 Wellesley (Mass.) won the team title with a 922, #4 Williams (Mass.) was second with a 928, #12 Amherst (Mass.) was third with a 936, #7 Redlands (Calif.) was fourth with a 943 and #25 Sewanee (Tenn.) was fifth with a 952.

ONU Record: 37-27.

ONU Individuals

Junior Amelia Burger (Centerville) led the Polar Bears over 54 holes with a 22-over par 77-78-83—238, good for a tie for 23rd place out of 102 golfers.

Sophomore Marisa Alfes (Bellbrook) tied for 36th with an 83-79-81—243.

Senior Grace Honigford (West Chester/Lakota East) tied for 43rd with an 82-76-87—245.

Junior Bekah Baumlein (Mainesville/Kings) tied for 55th with an 86-78-85—249.

Senior Torrie Smith (Kokomo, Ind./Western) tied for 80th with a 91-84-89—264.

Notables

In her career, Honigford has been Medalist 20 times in 42 career tournaments.

The tournament was a 3-day, 54-hole affair with top teams from all over the country competing.

Head coach Chad Bucci is 432-283-2 in his 11th season at the helm of the ONU women's golf team, a winning percentage of .604.

Up Next

The Polar Bears will co-host the Polar Beaver Invitational April 5-6.

ONU will host the first round of the two-day affair on April 5 at Colonial G.C. in Harrod, with Bluffton hosting round two on April 6 at Hidden Creek G.C. in Beaverdam.
