Judith M.  “Judy” McCurdy worked for Rite Aid pharmacy

Judith Muriel “Judy” Mccurdy, of Ada, passed away on Sunday, April 7, 2024 at Lima Memorial Health System surrounded by her family.

She was born on December 1, 1943, in Lima Ohio to the late Everett and Margaret (Brinkman) Schmenk. Judy married Gary Lee Mccurdy on May 6,1977. He preceded her in death on March 11, 2015.

Judy is survived by her four children: Mick (Frances Lacorte) of Cape Neddick, Maine; Joe (Emily) of Delaware, Ohio; Cari (Dan) of Newmarket New Hampshire; Katy (Eric) of Richmond, Virginia; a son-in-law, Clint Mathewson, of Ada, and a sister-in-law, Mary Schmenk of Ottawa. She is also survived by her ten grandchildren: Kass, Paulina, Charlie, Sam, Jude, Rett, Lou, Cleo, Joey and Calvin and numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom she loved dearly.

She was preceded in death by her daughter Amelia “Molly” Mathewson, sister Rose Ann Giesken, and three brothers: Don Schmenk, Bob Schmenk and Tom Schmenk.

Judy was raised in Ottawa, Ohio and graduated from Saints Peter and Paul High School. She attended Mary Manse College in Toledo, Ohio and majored in art. She lived in Italy for a short time and loved to travel. She was a devoted homemaker and mother to her five children.

Judy was a fixture at Peper Drug Store in Ada and loved her time working there as the office manager. She was well-known and loved by everyone who came in the store. Judy later worked as a pharmacy technician at Rite Aid, until her retirement. She called herself the “Traveling Grandma” and spent her later years flying around the country to spend quality time with her children and grandchildren. She was a long-time member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Ada.

Special thanks to her dear friends Pam and Greg Grimslid who were great companions and took loving care of her anytime she was in need.

A memorial mass will be held on Friday, May 3 at 12:00 p.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Ada. The family will receive visitors prior to the mass, from 11:00 a,n, to 12:00 p.m. at the church.
