Bulldog baseball rallies but edged by Knights

CONVOY __ The visiting Ada High School baseball team rallied from a huge deficit only to lose in the last at bat 11-10 at league power Crestview in the completion of a suspended Northwest Conference game Saturday, May 4.

The Knights led 10-0 in the second inning when the game was stopped by rain Monday. Crestview scored eight runs in the bottom of the first inning.

Ada started its rally with four runs in the top of the third inning Saturday. The feisty Bulldogs plated two runs in each of the next three frames to tie it up, 10-10.

But the Knights pushed a run across in the bottom of the seventh with a two-out single through the 5.5 hole to post the walk-off win. 

The tough defeat dropped the Bulldog record to 1-12 overall and 0-6 in NWC play. The Knights improved to 12-1 and 6-0 in league play with the win.

“The kids battled hard the whole game, and they competed,” said Ada second-year head coach Toby Smith. 

The Bulldogs outscored Crestview 10-1 Saturday after the game resumed.

Freshman catcher Andrew Allen stroked three hits, drove in two runs and scored once to pace the Bulldog offense.

Ada out-hit Crestview, 10-9. The Bulldogs committed seven errors, while the Knights made five miscues.

Freshman Wesley Mowery collected two hits and one RBI.

Ada junior shortstop Levi Green doubled, drew a walk and scored a run.

Freshman Brody Rister drew three walks and scored a run. Junior Max Puerto singled, had two RBI, scored a run and was hit by a pitch twice.

Sophomore Mason Wibley singled in two runs. Junior Kaine Fisher singled.

Mowery pitched 3 2/3 innings, allowing two hits and no earned runs. He struck out one and walked one. Wibley threw two frames and gave up two hits and no earned runs. He also whiffed a pair. 

Bryson Penix pitched all seven innings for the Knights, striking out 14 and walking five. He scattered 10 hits and gave up seven earned runs to get the win.

Ada plays at non-league foe Temple Christian (1-11) Monday.

The Bulldogs visit non-league foe Waynesfield (7-8) Tuesday. The Tigers  have won seven of their last eight after beating Ridgedale 5-2 Friday.
