Authors, movie stars visit Ada residents

Homebound Delivery Program makes materials available to Ada residents who aren’t able to visit the library

By Barbara Lockard
Imagine getting a visit from author James Patterson, or welcoming Brad Pitt into your home!

Thanks to the Ada Public Library, countless authors and actors are available through their books and movies and even “escorted” right to your front door!

The library’s Homebound Delivery Program makes materials available to Ada residents who aren’t able to visit the library, yet want to check out books, CDs and DVDs.  Library Director Rhett Grant delivers the materials and will help select topics of interest or honor requests for certain authors and genres.  Participants can keep the items for a month and there are no late fees.

Keep calm and build gingerbread houses

No building permits required, and you can eat it when you feel like it

Welcome to my house…you can’t get in, but you can eat it.

For the seventh season Ada Public Library hosted gingerbread house building parties. This year’s two-day event attracted nearly 50 home builders, according to Natalie Walton of the library staff.

“We supplied the graham crackers, canned frosting, Christmas candy, chocolate sprinkles and shredded coconut for the snow effect,” She said, adding that there’s not much direction required once all the supplies are in front of you.

Over the seasons, the project has attracted infants to seniors. And, lots of families have joined in the construction project.

Where else can you build your house and eat it too?

(No building permits required, but you must sign up in advance)

Q: Where else can you build your house and eat it too?

A: Ada Public Library.

And, you have two opportunities for this edible event. The Ada library holds its annual gingerbread house construction activities later this week.
• The first is from 4 to 7 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 12.
• The second is from 3 to 5 p.m., Friday, Dec. 13.

Although there are no building permit requirements, you must sign up. All the supplies are provided. Call the library at 419-634-5246 to sign up and for additional details.
