Getting to know Dr. Molly Senokozlieff

In the Bluffton practice of Blanchard Valley Obstetrics and Gynecology

During a noon break between seeing patients, the Icon caught up with Dr. Molly Senokozlieff, M.D., women’s health specialist. Her office is across from Bluffton Hospital in Blanchard Valley Obstetrics and Gynecology (formerly called Bluffton Woman’s Care).

When in Bluffton she may see 20 patients or more during the day, and her patient load had reached a dozen when we arrived. We talked quickly because one of her patients in Bluffton was in labor.

She pointed out that an early experience in her first year of residency at Ohio State University Hospital was being in the room during her sister’s delivery of triplets.

Weekend doctor: Ladies, let's talk about incontinence

By Jodi Bollenbacher, Certified Physician's Assistant
Blanchard Valley Obstetrics & Gynecology

Women often avoid discussing accidental bowel leakage, also known as fecal incontinence. The subject often seems taboo. Women may think they are the only ones suffering with it and become too embarrassed to talk about it.

Hematology and oncology clinic at Bluffton Hospital

A major health benefit to the local rural community

FROM BLUFFTON ICON - Not everyone’s first-ever summer job was like Henry Gerad’s.

As a 14-year-old in New York City, he worked in the summer as a lab technician in the cancer research lab at Mt. Sinai Hospital.

At that time, Dr. Charlotte Friend, known eventually for her discovery of the Friend Leukemia Virus and Friend erythroleukemia cells, conducted medical research in that lab.

That summer job sparked the young man’s interest in medicine, specifically hematology and oncology.

It led to a medical career in that field. Today, Dr. Gerad is with Hematology and Oncology Associates, part of Blanchard Valley Medical Practices.

Weekend doctor: Food allergies vs. intolerances

Specifically in children

By David Stukus, MD
Allergy and Immunology
Nationwide Children’s Hospital, an affiliate of Blanchard Valley Health System

Food allergies affect roughly five to eight percent of all children. A food allergy diagnosis can dramatically alter one’s life as it requires constant vigilance during meals and snacks and preparation in case a severe allergic reaction occurs. While many people experience various symptoms after eating certain foods, it is important to understand the differences between food allergy and intolerance.

What is an allergy?
