Chamber membership mixer on October 18

The Ada Area Chamber of Commerce is hosting a membership mixer on Wednesday, October 18 at The Inn at Ohio Northern University from 4:30-6:30 p.m.

Director Lindsay Walden Hollar notes, "We will discuss Small Business Saturday and our Merry on Main event. After our meeting, we encourage you to head to the Ada School Board candidate forum being hosted at the Dicke College at 7:00 p.m. 

Extension report for Hardin Co. August rainfall

HARDIN COUNTY__During the month of August 2023, Extension volunteer rainfall reporters received an average of 5.10 inches of rain. The most rain for this month, 7.27 inches fell in Goshen Township as measured by John Brien. The least rain reported during the month, 3.00 inches was reported in Blanchard Township by Nutrien Ag Solutions. During the same month last year, an average of 4.32 inches of rain fell. The rainfall recorded in August over the past ten years averaged 3.21 inches.

For the growing season since April 15, the average precipitation in the townships was 15.73 inches, ranging from 13.03 inches in Blanchard Township and 13.07 inches in Liberty Township to 19.35 inches in Pleasant Township. The growing season average rainfall was 3.62 inches below the ten-year average for Hardin County through August.

Ada Lions draw raffle winners for 2023

Four lucky ticket holders won prizes in the 2023 Ada Lions Club raffle drawing on October 11. All 4,500 tickets were sold with the lure of the big first place prize: two tickets to the October 21 Ohio State vs. Penn State football game and an overnight stay at a Columbus area Choice hotel.

Purchasers were also tempted by the second prize: an OSU bench crafted by Allen County Fabrication, third prize of $100 cash and fourth prize of $50.00 cash.

Lion Jill Simmons did the honors of drawing the winning tickets with these results:

Raffle co-chairman Ted Prueter thanked everyone who sold tickets and announced that the proceeds would be divided equally between the Lions scholarship and the Charles “Bud” Hawkins Memorial Scholarship; each will receive approximately $1800.

Hardin County Fair champion carcasses evaluated

HARDIN COUNTY__The Hardin County Carcass Show of Champions was evaluated Monday, September 18 at Jenkins Meats in Mt. Victory. This year’s event was held in-person and featured OSU Department of Animal Sciences Associate Professor of Meat Science Dr. Lyda Garcia as the judge. She discussed the merits of the winning market livestock carcasses from the 2023 Hardin County Fair.

McDonald's digital fundraiser for high school sports on Oct. 6

McDonald's owner-operators throughout Ohio will be raising funds for local high school athletic programs, including Ada High School, on October 6. During the High School Sports Digital Fundraiser Day, 20 percent of all sales purchased through the McDonald’s app will  be donated to local sports programs.

High School Sports Digital Fundraiser Day was created by local McDonald’s owner/operators in Ohio as a way to support the high school athletics in the communities they serve.
