"The Tiger's Wife" May 1 public library book discussion

The next book discussion by the Ada Public Library centers on the book "The Tiger's Wife," by Téa Obreht.

The discussion is held at 7 p.m., Tuesday, May 1, in the library.

Brief summary

In a Balkan country mending from war, Natalia, a young doctor, is compelled to unravel the mysterious circumstances surrounding her beloved grandfather’s recent death. Searching for clues, she turns to his worn copy of The Jungle Book and the stories he told her of his encounters over the years with “the deathless man.” But most extraordinary of all is the story her grandfather never told her—the legend of the tiger’s wife.

Relay for Life two weekends away - $10,831 already raised

Ohio Northern University's Relay for Life, set for Friday, April 20, is only two weeks off and already $10,831 has been generated by teams.

This year's event has 27 teams and 203 participants. The top team to date is the Newman Club, which has raised $1,337, followed closely by Kappa Epslion with $1235 and the Ninja Turtles at $1,125.

The top individual fundraisers are Jaclyn Purget with $595, Christian Bowden, $580, and Nicole Cuddy with $430.

Next Ada blood drive April 13

An American Red Cross blood drive is in Ada, Friday, April 13. The drive is from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the McIntosh Center at Ohio Northern University.

Individuals who are 17 years of age (16 with parental permission in Indiana and Ohio), meet weight and height requirements (110 pounds or more, depending on their height) and are in generally good health may be eligible to donate blood.

Bring your Red Cross blood donor card or other form of positive ID when you come to donate.

The Book Devourers Book Club for tweens launched

The Ada Public Library has started a book discussion group for chapter book readers. Here's how to join:

1. Get your copy of Middle School: The Worst Years of my Life from a librarian.
2. Come to the meeting on Monday, April 9 from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m.
3. Discuss the book, have a snack, and complete a fun activity

Next Ada Public Library book discussion April 3

The Ada Public Library's next book discussion is Tuesday, April 3, at 7 p.m. to discuss "Snow Flower and The Secret Fan," by Lisa See.

In nineteenth-century China a girl named Lily is paired with a woman named Snow Flower in an emotional match that will last a  lifetime.  As the years pass, the two send messages on fans, compose stories on handkerchiefs, reaching out of isolation to share their hopes, dreams and accomplishments. But when a misunderstanding arises, their deep friendship suddenly threatens to be torn apart.
