Burgess earns several awards at fair

Callie Burgess, Ada fourth grader, earned several awards at the Hardin County Fair, including:
Champion Natural Colored Ewe in both the Junior Fair and Open Sheep Shows;
Champion White Long Wool Ewe in both the Junior and Open Sheep Shows;
7th place in showmanship; and
1st place in the wool lead-in contest.

Men’s soccer suffers loss

The Ohio Northern men's soccer team fell to No. 7-ranked Calvin (Mich.) 9-2 on Saturday evening in the final match of the 2018 ONU Invitational held at Kerscher Stadium in Ada.

 

The Polar Bears drop to 1-2-1 on the season while Calvin improves to 4-0-0 overall.

It’s 699 career wins for Coach Witte

BLUFFTON — The Ohio Northern volleyball team, ranked 18th nationally, wrapped up the Bluffton Spiketacular with thrilling 5-set victories over DePauw (Ind.) and Bluffton on Saturday afternoon at the Sommer Center.

The Polar Bears (6-2 overall) edged DePauw 25-17, 14-25, 23-25, 25-20, 15-6 and got past Bluffton 25-20, 25-10, 22-25, 19-25, 15-6.

Junior Sydney Bapst was Ohio Northern's representative to the All-Tournament Team. Bapst finished the day with 21 kills and four blocks.

ONU head coach Kate Witte notched her 699th career victory in her 29th year at the helm of the Ohio Northern volleyball program.

Women’s cross country 10th of 24 teams

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — The Ohio Northern women's cross country team finished 10th of 24 teams at the Calvin (Mich.) Knight Invitational Saturday morning at the Gainey Athletic Complex.

The Polar Bears (19-9) scored 260 points and were third among the eight NCAA Division III schools.

Freshman Tessa Pitcovich led Ohio Northern across the finish line with a 51st place finish out of 287 runners in 19:27.

Soggy Saturday at the Hardin County Fair

It was a soggy Saturday at the Hardin County Fair. But the 62-degree temperature and the rainy remnants of Tropical Storm Gordon did not deter many hardy fair-goers.

Among the attractions at this year's fair were the usual rides, rabbits, and fair food, but also a first-time performance by young students of the Hardin County YMCA musical theatre troupe.

In spite of the nasty weather, most appeared to enjoy their day at the fair.

McVey first among Div III runners

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. —The Ohio Northern men's cross country team finished 11th of 23 teams at the Calvin (Mich.) Knight Invitational Saturday morning at the Gainey Athletic Complex.

 

The Polar Bears (15-11 overall) finished with 228 points in the field, which was made up primarily of NCAA Division II schools.

Senior All-American Ian McVey finished third of 302 runners overall and was first among Division III runners in 25:06 for the 8,000-meter course.
