Money for kids’ shoes, if you qualify

The Hardin County Department of Job and Family Services announced today they will be launching a countywide back to school shoe program for eligible Hardin County families begin Monday, July 23.

 

To be eligible families must reside in Hardin County, have children enrolled in grades K-12 and at or below 200 percent of the federal poverty level. For a family of four, that’s right around $50,000 a year,” stated John Folk, Hardin County JFS Director.

 

ArtSpace/Lima fine crafts invitational opens July 29

ArtSpace/Lima announces the opening of ArtSpace/Pops 2018: A Fine Craft Invitational in The Ellen Nelson Gallery, Sunday, July 29.

ArtSpace/Pops 2018 features new works by some of the area’s best craftsmen and -women in a joint showing which builds on the success of its predecessors.  The 2018 edition will be the 8th annual Pops exhibit.  Artists on display work in wood, metal, clay, paper, glass. fabric, and various jewelry-oriented combinations of metals and beads.  

All of the craftspersons in the exhibit are from Ohio and several have been award-winners in earlier ArtSpace shows.

AOPi reunion at ONU

Although Alpha Omicron Pi social sorority left campus 23 years ago, members still gather for an annual reunion. From Friday through Sunday, 101 ONU sorority sisters enjoyed each other’s company with many staying at The Inn. A luncheon was held on Saturday and that evening many dined together at Viva Maria’s.

This was the local sorority’s fifth annual reunion at ONU, according to Anita Cook, one of the organizers. Anita, formerly on the Freed Center staff, now lives in Columbus. She said the women who returned to campus last weekend came from across the United States.

While here, the women also donated several thousand dollars to two charities.

Noteworthy Community Choir will hold auditions

Vicki Mills, artistic director of Noteworthy Community Choir, will hold auditions in August. She may be contacted at 419-679-8259 to schedule an audition.

 

The choir is composed of four groups:

Treble Makers for 6-9 year olds,

Sounds for 7-10 year olds,

Voices for 8-18 year olds

Expressions for 13 to 86+ year olds.

 

The Noteworthy Community Choir has several engagements already scheduled, including the F and M Picnic in August.

First ever Hardin County Family YMCA Musical Theatre Workshop

Friday's noon performance at the courthouse in Kenton concluded the first ever Hardin County Family YMCA Musical Theatre Workshop, which was directed by Cassie Collins.  

 

Six girls, including Mia Musser, Maggie Musser, Briar Davis, Ruby Styer, Maitlyn McLane, and Caitlyn Mabrey, chose their own pieces and costumes.  

 

Through the week long workshop, the kids were introduced to vocal production and improvisation games as well as staging and costume ideas.
