2 ONU pole vaulters highly ranked

Akron -- ONU junior Maddy Reed (Piketon) and sophomore Maggie Krause (Chagrin Falls/Kenston) posted a pair of top-5 vaults nationally as they competed at the Campbell/Wright Invitational on Saturday afternoon in Akron.

Team scores were not kept at the meet.

Reed's mark of 13' 1.75" moves into third place nationally in the event. She finished first among Div. III athletes in the event.

ONU softball OAC tourney champs

WESTERVILLE — For the first time since the 2009 season, the Ohio Northern softball team has been crowned the Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament Champions after defeating host and No. 1 seed Otterbein 3-2 on Saturday afternoon in the title game at the Otterbein Softball Field.

The Polar Bears (30-9 overall) become the first team since current head coach Jackie (Mangola) Price made the NCAA Tournament as a player and current assistant coach Tina (Mangola) Martinez made the NCAA Tournament as an assistant coach for ONU in 2012, to punch their ticket to the NCAA Tournament.

ONU baseball ends season 27-13

The Ohio Northern baseball team ended its regular season after falling 8-6, 11-3 against Wilmington on Senior Day at Wander Field on Saturday afternoon.

 

The Polar Bears (27-13 overall, 11-7 Ohio Athletic Conference) are currently in a 2-way tie with Heidelberg for the No. 3 seed in the OAC standings.

Northern recognized its seven seniors in a post game ceremony as Kyle Schlade (Hamilton/Talawanda), Dan Barna (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley), Jordan Bostater (Bryan), Jason Burkett (Maumee), Brandon Kasberg (Mentor), Hayden Shenefield (Powell/Worthington Kilbourne) and T.J. Storer (Loveland/Moeller) were all honored.

Bands, choirs perform Tuesday

The Ada 5th, 6th, and Junior High Bands as well as the 6th  grade and Junior High Choir will perform their final concert of the year on Tuesday, May 8 at 7 p.m. in the school auditorium.  The program is free.

 

In addition to the large ensemble performances, junior high and high school instrumentalists will perform solo and ensemble selections throughout the evening.

 

The Junior High Choir will sing Simple Gifts with soloist Dexter Woods,
Man in the Mirror, and Rocky Top.

 

Ada Family Center to change location

The Ada Family Center will have Sunday worship in McIntosh Center tomorrow, where they have met for the past four years. After that, they will meet at the Ada Theater for three weeks, then have a kickoff celebration at their new location, Center on Central. Worship time is 10:30 a.m.

Ada Seniors to meet

The Ada Senior Citizens have scheduled two activities for May.

 

They will lunch at the Plaza Restaurant on Wednesday, May 9. Be at Community Health Professionals at 11:15 a.m. to carpool.

 

Madonna Lawrence will have the program entitled “Our Mothers” at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 23 at Community Health Professionals . Members may bring pictures or articles that they wish to share.
