It was a close call, but the Ada football team squeezed into the eighth and final playoff spot in the Div. VI, region 22 computer rankings by a 12.0 to 11.95 margin over ninth-place Ashland Crestview.

A late-season push earned the Bulldogs their 11th post-season trip over the last 12 years. Ada won their last three games of 2017 to finish 7-3, while Ashland Crestview also finished 7-3.

Meet ReStore's new manager

Patti Risner has been named store manager at Ada ReStore effective today. She resides in Kenton with her husband Danny. They are parents of three adult daughters and grandparents to 11 youngsters. She has had retail experience at Kenton Walmart and the former Kmart there. Mrs. Risner is a brain cancer survivor and is president and chaplain of Not by Choice. She is up for election next week for a third term on Kenton City Council. She replaces Linda Dearth who retired after more than a decade serving as store manager.(Monty Siekerman photo)

Different lighting downtown

The streetlights in the streetscape district downtown are being changed to LED lighting which will reduce electric costs and maintenance.

Wapak player named top defensive player

Ohio Northern senior linebacker Zach Schmerge (Wapakoneta) has been named the OAC Football Defensive Player of the Week for his effort's in ONU's 35-28 loss to Marietta on Saturday.

Schmerge had a season-high 19 tackles (four solo) and a tackle for loss to lead the ONU defense.

It is the first time this season and the fourth time in his career that Schmerge has received the honor.

The Polar Bears will return to action Saturday with a 1:30 pm contest at Wilmington.

Fuller named player of the week

Freshman Jenna Fuller (Countryside, Ill./Lyons Township) has been named the Women's Soccer Ohio Athletic Conference Player of the Week for the week of Oct. 22-29.

The freshman earns the honor for the first time in her career.

Fuller led the Polar Bears (16-1-1 overall, 9-0-0 OAC) to a 2-0-0 record last week.

In Northern's 7-2 victory over Baldwin Wallace, the freshman tallied two goals and added two assists for Northern.

During the Polar Bears' 5-0 victory over Marietta, Fuller added her league-leading 11th assist of the season.

Library to close for 2 hours Tuesday

The Ada Public Library will be closed from noon until 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 31, due to construction.
