Zombie Chase set for Friday

Local residents are invited to join ONU students in a Zombie Chase on campus at 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 27. It costs $5 to participate in the walk/run from The Pavilion to Affinity Commons, about a mile. Along the way, the walkers/runners will be scared by zombies.

The event is sponsored by Phi Mu Delta and the Association of Future Forensics. Those 13 and older may participate. Those under 18 years of age need a waiver, which is available at the event, signed by a parent. T-shirts will be sold for $12.

The Pavilion is located in a shelter just west of Fraternity Circle.

Alger church to honor veterans

The Alger First United Methodist Church, 101 E. Monteville, will honor and recognize veterans at 10 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 12.

Bob Weinberg, president of the Flag City Honor Flight, will be the featured speaker. He is also a member of the Society of the Honor Guard of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

The Lima Beane Chorus will sing several hymns and a patriotic medley.

Library closed Friday

The Ada Public Library will be closed Friday, Oct. 27, due to construction.  Regular library hours will resume on Saturday, Oct. 28, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.

Police to crack down on driving violations

Hardin County police departments, including Ada, will conduct targeted enforcement during November because fatalities have increased. There have been six deaths this year in six separate accidents, 50 percent the result of failure-to-yield.

The Ohio State Patrol, Hardin County Sheriff's Office, and Ada and Kenton Police Departments will focus on failure-to-yield, seat-belt violations, and distracted driving.

Library patrons go to Suter's Thursday

All Ada Public Library storytime groups are invited to join Natalie Walton at Suter's Farm for a morning hayride and pumpkin picking on Thursday, Oct. 26.

Those attending are asked to meet at 10:45 a.m. at Suter's, 12200 Pandora Rd., Pandora. Songs and a puppet show will be shared on the hayride. The cost is $4.50 per person

Ron Beachler's 30th year as coach

The Ohio Northern wrestling team was picked to finish second in the 2017-18 Ohio Athletic Conference Wrestling regular season standings in voting conducted by the league's seven head coaches.

The Polar Bears, under 30th-year head coach Ron Beaschler, received 31 points and one first place vote in the voting.

Baldwin Wallace was picked to win the league with 36 points and six first place votes. Otterbein was third with 22 points and John Carroll was picked to finish fourth with 21 points.

The Polar Bears return starters at all 10 weight classes and 14 lettermen from last year's squad that went 11-4 overall and finished third in the OAC with a 4-2 league record.
