Grace Nelson wins NWC girls' shot put, third in discus

Ada girls' finish 5th, boys' 6th at conference meet

Ada girls’ track and field team finished 5th and the boys’ team 6th in the Northwest Conference championship at Bluffton University. Grace Nelson, senior, brought home a first-place medal in the shot put.

Top four finishes for Ada boys’ included:
• Noah Mattson, sophomore, third, shot put, 43-5 ¼
• Brad Clum, sophomore, third, long jump, 18-9
• Alex Morgan, freshman, fourth, pole vault, 9-6
• Jake Agin, second, discus, 148-5 ½

Storer garners First Team All-OAC honors, leads list of five All-Conference honorees

ADA — The Ohio Northern baseball team saw five athletes earn All-Ohio Athletic Conference accolades for the 2017 season.

Junior T.J. Storer (Loveland/Moeller) led the list as he earned First Team All-OAC honors, junior Jordan Bostater (Bryan) was named Second Team All-OAC and junior Brandon Kasberg (Mentor), sophomore Luke Klinehoffer (Zanesville/John Glenn) and freshman Jack Schaller (Bowling Green) all earned Third Team All-OAC honors.

Storer was named First Team All-OAC as a relief pitcher and earned his third All-Conference accolade in as many seasons.

The junior closer led the conference and currently leads the nation with 14 saves.

AKY 1 is a familar Bluffton license plate. It's on a plum-colored Chrysler Town and Country minivan. It belongs to Dr. Alan K. Yoder (an Indiana U alum).

ADA-LIBERTY TOWNSHIP FIRE CHIEFS

According to the records, the first known chief was Agnew Welsh in 1884 (Empire Engine & Hose Company).

J.W. Kanode served as the first fire chief of the Ada Fire Department in 1889. D.A. Watt became chief in 1896 and the line of succession for the next years named Oscar Judd, Agnew Welsh, John Foit, J.F. Perry and J. Guy Deming, the later in October 1906.
