Former ambassador to speak

James Cunningham, former U.S. ambassador to Afghanistan, Israel and the United Nations, will deliver the Kormendy Lecture at noon Thursday, March 16 in the law building. 

Cunningham will discuss “Strengthening governance and rule of law in an era of crisis.” The talk is free and open to the public.

For ONU women's basketball team - it's more than just a game

Michelle Durand: "Team members support the community as well"

Michelle Durand, the highly successful women's basketball coach, spoke at the noon meeting of the Kiwanis Club this week.

"How do you get such top notch players to come to ONU," she was asked. She said that you not only look at athletic ability but also whether or not ONU will be a good fit for the prospective student.

She said the Northern players academically have ranked in the top 25 schools nationally for several years. Their grade point average is an outstanding 3.5.

The players find that ONU offers academic programs not found at a lot of schools, noting pharmacy and engineering as two examples.

Loco Cowboy Motion performs

Members of Ada Senior Citizens joined residents of Vancrest for a little git-tar playin' and singin' at the retirement home this week. The husband and wife team of Loco Cowboy Motion, Mike and Patti Meier of Wapakoneta, played country western and singability songs.

Girl Scout cookies sold at McIntosh

Just because you go off to college doesn't mean you need to leave Scouting behind. Tyler Overly sells Girl Scout cookies near the cafeteria entrance in McIntosh Center this week and next. If a Scout missed you this year, pick up a few boxes in McIntosh to support the Girl Scouts. There are several kinds of cookies priced at $4-5 a box. Tyler is active in Campus Scouts, after being a Scout in grade school and high school in New London. She is now a senior education major. ONU Campus Scouts recently sponsored a father-daughter dance and, next month, will head up a safety program about fire and poison prevention for the girls in the Ada troops

J.D. Yoder named next dean of ONU College of Engineering

Long-time faculty member and administrator John-David “JD” Yoder, Ph.D., has been named dean of the T.J. Smull College of Engineering at Ohio Northern University, effective June 19.

Yoder, who joined the ONU faculty in 2001, is currently professor of mechanical engineering and chair of the Department of Mechanical Engineering.

“I am confident that Dr. Yoder has the ideal professional and personal attributes to provide effective leadership for the College of Engineering,” said ONU President Daniel DiBiasio, Ph.D.

6 ONU athletes gain academic honors

Six athletes from the Ohio Northern men's basketball team have been named Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference for the 2016-17 season.

Senior Joey Hurless (Van Wert), juniors Grant Pepper (Oakwood), Alex Sibila (Zionsville, Ind.), Joey DiOrio (Columbus/Watterson), Max Harnett (Kettering/Alter) and sophomore Sean Grady (Willowick/Eastlake North) each earned the honor for Northern
