Field work

It means heading to Florida for some ONU students

Unlike a traditional semester in which students take several courses simultaneously, Ohio Northern University field semester students spend weeks on just one topic.

This semester in the Department of Biological and Allied Health Science is comprised of four three-week modules on field botany, field invertebrate, ichthyology and marine biology.

Students taking the class travel explore Ohio and spend time in Florida studying specimens in the Gulf of Mexico.

Lent: a season of changing habits and developing new ones

Lent provides a chance to take inventory of our attitudes

Lent, the six-week prelude to Easter, is traditionally a time for sacrifices but can also be a season for making gains, says the Rev. David MacDonald, ONU chaplain.

“Many individuals focus on the aspect of self-denial by giving up something such as a favorite food item,” MacDonald said. “While there is nothing wrong with that practice, Lent can be a season of longer-lasting, more practical impact.”

Rather than merely ditching candy bars for six weeks, Lent provides more meaningful opportunities.
