Tree Commission and Sigma Phi Epsilon trim the low branches

By Monty Siekerman
It's safer to walk or ride a bicycle along the sidewalks in Ada after members of the tree commission and ONU students trimmed some of the low branches on the trees on Saturday morning.

Commission members plan a tree trimming session each fall.

These three commission members, volunteering their time, handling some serious equipment, plan to head out on the job. From left are Jim Neiswander, Angela Polachek, and Jamie Hall.

In the photo below members of Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity help trim trees (from left) Luke Franks, Alex Hoskins, Kyle Kahle, and Colten Tepe.

They compete against Ada, which had a large number of people turn out last Monday. The schools all share in a percentage of sales, but the school system with the most sales gets an extra $150.

So, now it's up to Rams to try to top Ada's sales between 5-8 p.m. on Monday

Speaking from the heart

Kevin Hines jumped off the Golden Gate bridge and lived to tell about it; now he talks about suicide prevention

By Monty Siekerman
How do you keep 70 people in rapt attention for two hours when discussing suicide?

How do you add genuine humor to a talk about suicide?

You speak from the heart, relaying your personal experience of surviving a suicide attempt.

And, you give the talk over and over and over, hoping to save the lives of those who might attempt suicide and save the heart-wrenching grief that comes to family and friends when death from suicide occurs.
