An evening of African drumming and dance at Freed Center

Ohio Northern University and the Department of Music present “African Music Celebration,” an evening of African drumming and dance led by Benjamin Obido Ayettey, professor and Fulbright visiting scholar, in the Freed Center for the Performing Arts on Thursday, March 10, at 7:30 p.m.

The ONU African Drumming and Dance Ensemble will perform several traditional Ghanaian dances as well as some contemporary pieces; Ayettey has composed a piece especially for the group. Other groups will perform between the dances, including pieces featuring cow bells, calabash shells and bamboo flutes.

HealthWise residency program receives grant

The Ohio Northern University HealthWise residency program has received an American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) Foundation Pharmacy Residency Expansion Grant for the 2016-17 residency year.

University Keiser Distinguished Lectureship speaker Dr. James Estes

Ohio Northern University will host a lecture by Dr. James Estes, professor of ecology and evolutionary biology at the University of California at Santa Cruz and research biologist at the Institute for Marine Sciences, in the Freed Center for the Performing Arts on Monday, March 14, at 7:30 p.m. This lecture is free and open to the public.

Estes’ presentation, titled “Apex Predators and Nature’s Functions,” is part of the Keiser Distinguished Lectureship in Life Sciences program, named in honor of ONU alumnus Terry D. Keiser, professor of biological sciences and director of University sustainability.

Student National Pharmaceutical Association team selected as regional winner

A team from the Ohio Northern University chapter of the Student National Pharmaceutical Association (SNPhA) has been selected as one of five regional winners of the 2015-16 “Prescription for Service” competition. The ONU division of SNPhA will receive a $2,500 grant award that will enable it to implement a service program in the community.

Jessup Moot Court Team advances to international competition

The Ohio Northern University Pettit College of Law Jessup International Law Moot Court Team advanced to the White & Case International Rounds in Washington, D.C., which will be held in April, after finishing second among 20 schools at the 57th annual Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition Regional Rounds in Chicago earlier this month.

College of Engineering honors pair with Distinguished Alumni Awards

Ohio Northern University’s T.J. Smull College of Engineering honored Craig O. Pierson, president of Marathon Pipe Line LLC, and Timothy Quellhorst, senior vice president of Crown Equipment Corporation, with Distinguished Alumni Awards on Feb. 22.

Pierson, who graduated with a Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering in 1978, joined Marathon Pipe Line Company in June 1978 as a pipeline engineer in Martinsville, Ill.
