Meet the Icon dog of the week - Belle

Meet Belle. Belle is 6 year old female shepherd mix. She weighs 54 pounds. Can you give Belle a forever home?

To give a dog a forever home, contact the Hardin County dog shelter. It is located at 49 Jones Road on the west side of Kenton.

Hours: 9 am to 4 pm on Monday, Thursday, and Friday. Phone: 419-674-2209.

Generally, about 20 to 25 dogs are available for viewing.

The shelter is also the place to contact for giving up a dog, if you find a lost or stray dog, or if you come in contact with a vicious dog. It costs $20 to surrender a dog, which pays for deworming and immunizations for when it is rescued.

Zumba in the water to the music

Lynne Scott will show you how

By Monty Siekerman
Lynne Scott, certified Aqua Zumba instructor, puts class members through a workout session at the Ada Pool on Saturday.

Despite her arm in a sling, Lynne goes through the phases of the workout on dry land while about a dozen people follow suit in the water.

This year, she is holding classes twice a week from 7:10-7:50 p.m. on Wednesdays and 12:10-12:50 p.m. on Saturdays.

Sessions of the fast-paced exercise routine continue from now until the pool closes in late August. Those under 18 years of age need to be accompanied by an adult.

Shane Tilton: "I thought there was a high-speed chase"

While May 22 events unfolded below in a Manchester, England hotel

An ONU professor and two of his students lived through a harrowing experience in Manchester, England, on May 22.  Unfolding below them in their hotel rooms, about a mile away from the Adriana Grande concert, was a scene of mayhem: 22 dead and 119 injured in a bombing. Shane Tilton, Ph.D., assistant professor of multimedia journalism, gives the Ada Icon this account of that dreadful night:

Last chance to buy mulch is Saturday

This Saturday is your last day to buy mulch from the Lions Club this year. The club, which sells mulch to support its scholarship program, extended sales into June this year since most Saturdays in May were rained out.

To order, call 419-634-5626 or 419-302-5897 for delivery on Saturday. Or, you may stop by their mulch supply on Saturday morning from 8 am until noon with your own truck or trailer.

Brown mulch costs $30 per Bobcat load while black mulch goes for $35. For pickup, the mulch is available at Bass Trucking, 0410 SR 81, just west of Ada.

Free exercise class

Since beginning an exercise class in January, Harold Cotsamire (far right in photo) has developed a program that draws about 20 people on Monday and Friday mornings. The exercise routine begins at 9:30 a.m. at the Ada United Methodist Church. The class includes standing, sitting, and stretching movements.

He explained that everyone is welcome---men and women, no age requirement, no advanced signup, you don't have to be a member of the church to attend, just a desire to stay healthy. And, it's free.
