Lots of skill needed in F&M pedal tractor pull - here are the winners

There's plenty of tractor drivers in Ada, and many are under the age of 8.

Thirty-three of those youngsters competed in the Ada Kiwanis Club  Pedal Tractor Pull at the Ada Farmers and Merchants Picnic on Aug. 8.

The winners were:
Class 1 (ages 3 and 4):
1st place, Xavier Gammon, 4, Alger
2nd place, Kiden Fensler 4, Ada 
3rd place, Sarah Klingler, 4, Ada 
4th place, Reese Heister, 4, Washington, D.C.

Ada Bulldog marching band prepares for fall competitions with Pac-Man theme

If you’re a gaming fan, you should enjoy the 2015 Ada High School Marching Band competition show – Pac-Man! 

In the popular Pac-Man arcade game originally released in 1980 Pac-Man's goal was to eat all of the pellets on the game board while avoiding being tagged by the Ghosts.

The Ghosts' goal was to catch Pac-Man. During this years show the band performs on a life size Pac-Man maze with musicians portraying the ghosts and the color guard portraying Ms. Pac-Man, the female protagonist.

Charles Van Dyne elected to Elks national office

Charles Van Dyne, a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, was elected to the office of Grand Esteemed Leading Knight during the 151st Grand Lodge session held in July in Indianapolis. He was among eight national officers elected for 2015-16 at the session.

Others elected were from Washington, Mississippi, New Mexico, Minnesota, Illinois, Delaware and Virginia.

Van Dyne, a member of the Kenton Elks Lodge #157, has received several honors from the Elks and has held several positions in the organization.

In 2013 the Ohio Elks Association named him the Elk of the Year.

The Cadets presented a custom NFL Wilson football

John Hohn, Director of Economic Development, Hardin County Chamber & Business Alliance presents George Hopkins, Director of The Cadets and CEO and Executive Director of Youth Education in the Arts, a custom NFL football from Wilson Sporting Goods.

Presenting with Hohn is David Dellifield, Director, McIntosh Center ONU.

The Cadets rehearsed at ONU for the Drum Corps International 2015 World Championships at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis. The Championship will be held Saturday and Sunday.

Lots of news about Kiwanis members at the recent club meeting

Several news announcements came from the recent Ada Kiwanis Club meeting.

• Shigehobu Yoshimoto, a guest of member Joe Ferguson, was welcomed to the meeting. He is a chaperone for the Labo program (sponsored by 4-H), which brings Japanese youth to the United Sates for an American experience.

• Long-time member Charles VanDyne was congratulated on being installed as Grand Esteemed Leading Knight at the recent Grand Lodge Convention of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks held in Indianapolis, Indiana. He will assume the position at the Grand Lodge’s session next year in Houston, Texas.

Tree in park honors Dr. Mark Shull
