At a jewelry party in 1984, a woman asked Chris Gibson why she wasn’t working with the local Red Cross. Gibson gave it some thought and applied to be a volunteer.  The rest is truly history.

At age 87, Gibson has logged 35 years as Ada’s Bloodmobile coordinator.  She’ll turn over the volunteer position to Mary Hackworth this month.

“I’ll be around at the November and January blood drives,” said Gibson.  “But I’ll only step in if I’m needed.”

Vancrest's spotlight is on Pauline Shadley

Ada HS and ONU grad, she taught 4th grade for 30 years.

Lifelong Ada resident Pauline Shadley is the November Vancrest spotlight resident, and she well deserves the honor.

In case you don’t know Pauline, she is an assisted living resident at Vancrest and is an Ada High School and Ohio Northern University graduate, having graduated with a degree in education.

What you may not know about her is that she played basketball all through her school days, making that her favorite sport.

She spent her professional career teaching fourth grade in Perry schools, Allen County.
