Harding Highway Walmart evacuated on March 27

On Monday, March 27, 2023 at approximately 4:26 p.m., Allen County Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to 2400 Harding Hwy (Walmart Super Center) in reference to a man making threats and refusing to leave the store.

Due to the nature of Mr. Killings’ threats, the store was evacuated. Deputies arrived within minutes and immediately took James E. Killings (DOB 5-16-1991) into custody without incident.

Killings was booked into the Allen County Jail on charges of Criminal Trespass and Inducing Panic.

Fire Equipment Grants
Governor Mike DeWine and Ohio Department of Commerce’s Division of State Fire Marshal announced the recipients of the 2023 Fire Department Equipment Grants. These grants have been awarded to 154 fire departments in 70 counties throughout the state totaling nearly 1.4 million dollars for protective clothing, self-contained breathing apparatus, communications, and other life-saving equipment. In Columbiana County, three volunteer fire departments were recipients of this funding: East Palestine, Leetonia and Highlandtown.

Driver of vehicle that killed Officer Dominic Francis sentenced to 21+ years

WFIN.com has reported that the man charged with involuntary manslaughter in the March 31, 2022 death of Bluffton Police Officer Dominic Francis has pled guilty and been sentenced in Hancock County Common Pleas Court.

On Tuesday afternoon. March 21, 2023, Emin Johnson, 21, was sentenced to 21 to 26 and a half years in prison. The term is for consective sentences on six charges.

March 3 warning of flooding on county roadways

Approx. 9:00 p.m. March 3 Road Conditions Announcement by Hardin County Sheriff:

Due to the continued rainfall across the area, our office is getting several calls about spots of high water across roadways.

All of the 'High Water' signs available in the county have been placed on roadways at this time.

We would like to remind motorists that attempting to cross roadways with water across it is extremely dangerous and should not be attempted. As night falls, water across the roadways is more difficult to see, thus motorists should allow extra time to be able to make it to their destinations safely.

Tornado watch issued on February 27

A tornado watch has been issued for parts of Indiana, Kentucky and Ohio until 6:00 PM EST on Monday, February 27.
