Hanson-Neely 16th annual remembrance service Dec. 14

Hanson-Neely Funeral Homes, Ada and Alger will hold its 16th annual remembrance service at 3 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 14, at its Ada chapel, 311 E. Lima Ave., according to Bruce Neely.

Persons attending may arrive anytime between 2 and 3 p.m. Upon arrival, a personalized ornament will be given to the family to place on a Christmas tree.

A short memorial service will take place at 3 p.m.  A time of sharing and light refreshments will follow.

Liberty Township experienced the lowest rainfall of all Hardin townships in 2019

Hardin was second to only Wood in the state for having the most acres of prevented planting fields because of the consistent rains of April, May and June

Liberty Township experienced 20.01 inches of rain during the 2019 growing season, according Phil Epley, township reporter for the Hardin County Extension Office.

The growing season is from April 15 to Oct. 15. And, while 2019 was a wet year, Liberty Township farmers experienced the lowest recorded rainfall of any Hardin township.

With the help of 15 volunteer rainfall reporters, the Hardin County Extension office has collected unofficial township rainfall data for the past 27 consecutive years. 

ONU HealthWise mobile clinic in December

The Ohio Northern University mobile clinic has several stops this month. Here’s the stops now through Dec. 31, provided by Michael J. Rush, HealthWise director. 

Dec. 10 - Kenton YMCA, 8-11 a.m.
Dec. 18 - Alger, food distribution, 9-10:30 a.m.
Dec. 19 - Roundhead, 10:30 a.m.-noon and 4:30-6:30 p.m.

An enjoyable holiday feast

Ada schools roll out the red carpet for seniors - a tradition going back to 1992

It's one of the community's most enjoyable holiday traditions.

This year's  27th annual Ada schools senior citizens Christmas luncheon drew an appreciative crowd of seniors and they filled the gym.

Each December since 1992 the Ada schools have treated area seniors to a turkey, mashed potatoes and gravy, salad, beans and pumpkin pie luncheon – okay the menu changes from time to time.

Meri Skilliter, Ada superintendent, greeted the guests. Servers were members of the varsity boys' and girls' basketball teams.

Very, very Merry on Main

Over 375 youth of all ages gave Santa an earful

It was a “very, very” Merry on Main downtown Ada on Monday evening. The annual Ada Area Chamber of Commerce launch of the Christmas season grows each year, attracting young and old.

Consider:
• Over 375 youth visited Santa Claus at First United Methodist Church

• 100 youth goody bags from Liberty National Bank were given away at the depot within minutes of its opening for the evening

• 15 dozen cookies disappears at about the same time at the depot

County chamber-business alliance accepting nominations for citizen of the year

The Hardin County Chamber and Business Alliance is now accepting nominations for the 2019 Citizen of the Year, Business of the Year, Small Business of the Year, Community Service Awards, Women LEAD Professional Excellence Award, Young Professional Leadership Award, and (new this year) Emerging Business Award.
