Ada celebrates July 4th on July 2 with Lima Symphony concert

The Lima Symphony Orchestra will celebrate the Fourth of July with a “Patriotic Pops” concert on the campus of Ohio Northern University on Saturday, July 2, at 7 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.

The concert will take place on the sculpture mall east of McIntosh Center between Presser and Weber halls. This fun-filled family event will feature patriotic music, movie classics, popular tunes and a tribute to our armed services.

Two ribbon cuttings set by Ada chamber this month

The Ada Area Chamber of Commerce is in the ribbon-cutting business this month.

According to Deb Curlis, chamber president, the chamber will cut a ribbon and present a broom to the newest Ada business, Call of Beauty at 9:15 a.m., following its June 15 meeting.

Then, at noon, Wednesday, June 15, the chamber will cut a ribbon at the St. Rita health center on State Route 81. 

 

Youth leadership seminar in Ada June 9-12; lots of community service projects planned

Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership Seminar (HOBY) is returning to Ada this week.

HOBY is a four-day leadership seminar for over 200 high school sophomores from northern and western Ohio held June 9-12 at Ohio Northern University, according to Katie Ferren, co-director of Community Service.

The HOBY program inspires students to recognize their leadership talents and apply them in becoming effective, ethical leaders in their homes, schools, workplaces and communities.

From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, June 11, is a community service day for HOBY Ambassadors.

Call of Beauty hair salon now open on Main Street

Call of Beauty hair salon is now open at 110 N. Main St., Ada, according to Kylee Prater, owner and hairstylist.

She graduated from Nationwide Beauty Academy in Columbus and has been styling hair for the past nine years in Lima and Ada before opening her own shop in what was a tattoo business for many years.

She does haircuts, color, perms, waxing, relaxers, manicures, pedicures, gel polish, and makeup applications.

The business is open from 9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday, 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, and 8:30 a.m. to 1p.m. on Saturday.

Red Cross seeks volunteers to assist with Learn To Swim Program

Summer is here and so is the time for Red Cross Swimming Lessons, according to Sandra Neely, Red Cross water safety instructor.

As in past years the Ada Learn To Swim Program is in need of aides to assist with the lessons.

AN ATTACHMENT AT THE BOTTOM OF THIS STORY.

Ages 12 and up, including adults are encouraged to sign up to help others learn swimming skills.  As little as an hour each day of lessons is helpful. Lessons begin the week of July 11 for two weeks and continue Monday through Friday each week.

June and July events in Ada promise to keep things lively

It's summer. Nothing happens in Ada in summer, right?

Wrong.

Darlene Bowers has gathered four pages of events that place in Ada during June and July.
