Lady Lancers use press to down Ada

ADA - Visiting Lincolnview rode a swarming fullcourt press to a big early lead and cruised to a 52-20 win over Ada in a Northwest Conference girls basketball game Thursday night.

The Lady Bulldogs fell to 1-18 overall and 0-7 in the NWC with the defeat, while the Lady Lancers improved to 7-14 and 1-6 with their first league victory.

After Ada sophomore Alexis Waugh nailed a short bank shot to pull within 4-2, quick Lincolnview reeled off 12 unanswered points and they never led by less than double digits the rest of the way.

MIDDLE POINT - After a close first quarter, host Lincolnview
outscored Ada 31-11 over the middle periods to post a 59-34 win in Northwest Conference boys basketball action Friday night.  

The Bulldogs dropped to 3-15 overall and 2-4 in the NWC with the defeat. Meanwhile, the Lancers improved to 10-8 and 5-2 in league play after the victory.  

The Lancers led just 12-8 after the opening stanza. But Lincolnview held Ada to three second quarter points to grab a 26-11 intermission bulge.

ONU senior is DIII men's runner of the year

Second consecutive season for Ian McVey

ONU Senior All-American Ian McVey (Stow/Munroe Falls) has been tabbed the All-Ohio Division III Men's Runner of the Year for the second consecutive season.

In 2018, McVey won his second straight All-Ohio Championship title with a 24:23.8 clocking at Silver Creek Metro Park, the second-fastest time in school history for an 8,000-meter course.

The senior standout would capture six individual crowns this season, including his second successive Ohio Athletic Conference Championship and Great Lakes Regional Championship crowns.

He also secured his second career All-America honor after ending fifth at the NCAA Championships in Winneconne, Wisc.

Jenna Dirksen joins ONU women’s 1,000-point club

Senior guard Jenna Dirksen (Beavercreek/Carroll) became the 16th player in Ohio Northern women's basketball history to surpass the 1,000 career point threshold Wednesday evening in a 61-39 conference loss to Otterbein inside the Rike Center.

Dirksen entered Wednesday's contest needing just one point to join Ohio Northern's 1,000-Point Club. With 5:26 remaining in the opening quarter, she would knock down a three-pointer from the left wing to eclipse the milestone with 1,002 career points.

Arlington makes big early lead last to beat Ada boys

ARLINGTON - Visiting Ada fell far behind non-conference rival Arlington early yet rallied, only to come up short in a 47-38 boys basketball makeup battle Tuesday night.  

The purple and gold fell to 3-14 with the loss, while the Red Devils improved    to 13-4 with their fifth straight win.    

The Bulldogs trailed 21-9 after the first period and 32-16 at halftime. Ada came back after intermission and limited Arlington to just 15 second half points while scoring 22 themselves. But it was not enough to surpass the big halftime deficit.

Ada girl cagers get 1st round tourney bye

The Ada girls basketball team received a first round bye and was seeded 12th out of 12 teams at the Allen East/Bath Div. IV super sectional drawing held Sunday afternoon.

The Lady Bulldogs (1-17) will face the first round winner between top-seeded Arlington and 11th-seeded Hardin Northern Saturday, Feb. 23, at 6:15 p.m. in Harrod at Allen East.

Ada and fifth-seeded Leipsic both got first round byes for the six-team half of the sectional at AE. 

Third seed Bluffton will meet 10th seed Pandora-Gilboa in the second sectional semifinal at AE. The winner then plays Leipsic in the other sectional final Saturday, Feb. 23.
