Women’s track nationally ranked at #9

The Ohio Northern women's outdoor track and field team jumped two spots to No. 9 in the fourth weekly United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) power rankings.

 

The Polar Bears are ranked in the top-10 for the third time this season. ONU received 77.34 points in the rankings, while George Fox (Ore.) is ranked No. 1.

The Polar Bears return to action this weekend as they host the 2018 Outdoor Ohio Athletic Conference Championships at Kerscher Stadium on Friday and Saturday.

Bulldog track boys win tri meet

ADA — The Ada boys track team won a triangular meet at home in a light but regular rain Tuesday evening at War Memorial Stadium.

 

Ada scored 89 points to capture first in the boys team standings. Bluffton came in second with 70 points, while Ft. Jennings was a distant third with 10.  

 

The Lady Bulldogs finished second to Bluffton in the girls meet, 94 points to 57. FJ brought up the rear again with 18.

 

Women’s tennis has done well, until now

OBERLIN — A rainy afternoon in Northeast Ohio forced the Ohio Northern women's tennis team indoors, where host Oberlin posted an 8-1 victory at Heisman Field House on Tuesday.

The Polar Bears fall to 18-5 overall, while the No. 11 regionally ranked Yeowomen improve to 14-8.

Senoir Lynn Kelly (Mason) led Ohio Northern with a 6-2, 7-5 victory at No. 2 singles.

Paulding downs Ada girls in 1st place battle

ADA - The host Ada softball team lost to Paulding 13-2 in a battle for first place in the Northwest Conference Monday evening.

 

The Lady Bulldogs dropped to 9-5 overall and 3-2 in the NWC with the loss between two of the three league leaders. The Panthers improved to 7-4 overall and 4-1 in NWC play after the big win.

 

"We just made too many errors," said Ada head coach Troy Erickson, whose team allowed seven unearned runs. "We have to play error-free ball. We have a freshman who pitches to contact, and (thus) we have to make the plays behind her.

 

Men’s tennis wins 6-3

WESTERVILLE — The Ohio Northern men's tennis team concluded its Ohio Athletic Conference regular season with a 6-3 victory at Otterbein on Monday afternoon.

Despite the rain and a facility change following doubles play, the Polar Bears (13-7 overall, 6-2 OAC) fought for a 6-3 victory.

The Cardinals fall to 10-8, 4-3.

Junior Jake Abbott (Kenton), sophomore Connor Christian (Gallipolis/Gallia Academy) and freshman Hoang Do (Powell/Olentangy Liberty) each won twice to lead the Polar Bears.

Ochsenhirt chosen Tennis Player of the Week

For the second time this season, junior Ashley Ochsenhirt (Birmingham, Ala./Briarwood Christian) has been named the Ohio Athletic Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week.

Ochsenhirt earned the honor for the fifth time in her career.

The junior led ONU this week at the OAC Tennis Fest, going a perfect 6-0 during the week, lifting ONU to a perfect 4-0 week.

Ochsenhirt was 3-0 in singles play and 3-0 in doubles play and was the deciding match in ONU's thrilling 5-4 victory over OAC-foe Otterbein.
