Lady Bulldogs outslug Ridgemont

RIDGEWAY - The visiting Ada softball team raced to a 12-0 lead and held off county rival Ridgemont 13-7 on a cold, windy Friday evening.

Ada improved to 3-1 with its second victory in two days. The Lady Gophers fell to 2-3 following the defeat.

 

The contest was scoreless for the first two innings. Then the Lady Bulldogs erupted for six runs in each of the third and fourth innings to grab the dozen-run advantage.

 

ONU wins doubleheader

ALLIANCE — The Ohio Northern baseball team used strong pitching performances and a balanced offensive attack to sweep Mount Union 15-4, 9-4 on Sunday afternoon at 23rd Street Field in Alliance.

The Polar Bears improve to 16-6 overall and 4-2 in the Ohio Athletic Conference, while the Purple Raiders drop to 13-7, 4-2.

In the first contest, MtU scored an early run in the bottom of the first inning to take an early lead before Northern scored three runs in the fourth and fifth innings to take a 3-1 lead.

Richards top collegian in Arizona race

TEMPE, Ariz. — Senior Emily Richards (Delaware/Hayes) represented the No. 5-ranked Ohio Northern women's track and field team at the 39th Annual Sun Angel Classic in Tempe, Arizona on Saturday evening.

Richards competed in the premier section of the 800-meter run and entered the race as the top collegian in the event across all divisions.

The senior did not disappoint in the race, finishing second overall and posting the top collegiate finish in 2:02.84.

Lavey, Fisher, Reed post 1st place finishes

UPLAND, Ind. — Sophomore Taylor Lavey (New Baltimore, Mich./Findlay) and juniors Taylor Fisher (Wapakoneta) and Maddy Reed (Piketon) led the No. 5-ranked Ohio Northern women's track and field team as it competed in the 3rd Annual George Glass Invitational on Saturday afternoon.

Lavey led the Polar Bears (19-4 overall) with a first place finish in the 200-meter dash, winning the event in :26.06, while freshman Stella DeWitt (Weston/Cardinal Stritch Catholic) finished fourth in the event in :27.11.

Molinaro competes against some of the top runners in the country

TEMPE, Ariz. — Senior Matt Molinaro (Sterling Heights, Mich./DeLaSalle) competed in the 800-meter run on Saturday evening as he represented the Ohio Northern men's outdoor track and field team at the Sun Angel Track Classic in Tempe, Arizona.

The senior competed in the premier section of the race and was the only Division III athlete competing in the event, competing against seven Division I athletes and two professional athletes.

Coach calls match results “embarrassing, unacceptable”

ALLIANCE — The Ohio Northern men's tennis team fell 8-1 at Mount Union on Saturday afternoon at Whitehill Tennis Courts.

The Polar Bears move to 7-6 overall and are 1-1 in the Ohio Athletic Conference, while the Purple Raiders improve to 10-2, 4-0.

Junior Jake Abbott (Kenton) and sophomore Connor Christian (Gallipolis/Gallia Academy) won 9-8(4) at No. 2 doubles for Ohio Northern.

In singles play, five of the 13 sets went to a tiebreaker with Mount Union taking four of the five to complete the sweep.
