8 from ONU qualify for nationals

The Ohio Northern men's and women's track and field team will be well represented at the 2018 NCAA Div. III Indoor National Championships in Birmingham, Ala. this coming weekend as the Polar Bears saw a total of six women and two men qualify for the championships.

Senior Emily Richards (Delaware/Hayes), juniors Taylor Fisher (Wapakoneta), Avery Ewing(Kokomo, Ind./Eastern), Maddy Reed (Piketon) and sophomores Taylor Lavey (New Baltimore, Mich./Findlay) and Maggie Krause (Chagrin Falls/Kenston) will represent the Ohio Northern women's track and field teams at the meet.

Bulldog athletes get ready for spring

Schedules follow for softball, baseball, track, boys' tennis, junior high track

With the exception of this week’s state wrestling meet, Ada High School athletes’ focus is spring sports.

Ken Jochims, Ada athletic director, released the schedules for Bulldog spring sports. The schedules are attached at the bottom of this story.

Those sports include:
• Baseball
• Softball
• Track and field
• Boys’ tennis
• Junior high track and field

Spring team photo day is Wednesday, March 14, after school.

Ada’s Mackenzie Wills wins on Florida Courts

ORLANDO, Fla. — The Ohio Northern women's tennis team began its spring break trip with a 9-0 victory over King's (Pa.) on Sunday evening at the USTA National Tennis Center.

The Polar Bears improve to 5-1, while the Monarchs fall to 1-2.

Junior Ashley Ochsenhirt (Birmingham, Ala./Briarwood Christian) and sophomore Kaleigh Cummins (Springfield/Northeastern) led ONU.

Ochsenhirt won 6-1, 6-2 at No. 1 singles, Cummins won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 singles, and the pair combined for an 8-2 win at No. 1 doubles.

8 ONU track stars gain regional honors

The Ohio Northern women's track and field team saw eight members named to the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Indoor All-Great Lakes Region team for the 2018 indoor season.

Baseball splits in season opener

AUBURNDALE, Fla. -- The Ohio Northern baseball team opened its 2018 season by splitting a double header with Nebraska Wesleyan on Sunday at Lake Myrtle Park Field.

The Polar Bears got three home runs and a stellar pitching performance to win the opening game 8-4.

The Prarie Wolves (1-1) scorted five unearned runs in the third inning and went on to win the nightcap 8-5.

In Game 1, ONU got home runs from junior Caleb Thomas (Strongsville), senior Jason Burkett (Maumee) and senior Dan Barna (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley).

Softball wins first two games of season

KISSIMMEE, Fla. -- The Ohio Northern softball team opened its 2018 season with a pair of victories at the Sunkissed Games on Sunday afternoon.

The Polar Bears (2-0 overall) started the day with a 2-0 victory over DeSales (Pa.) and ended the day with a 10-5 win over Muhlenberg (Pa.)

In the opener, senior Kirsten Lightel (Tallmadge) threw a 2-hit shutout with seven strikeouts to pick up the win.
