Children 5 to 12 auditions set for “Spectacular”

Performances Nov. 15-16-17-30 and Dec. 1-2

Ohio Northern University will hold children’s auditions for “The ONU Holiday Spectacular” at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 9 at the Freed Center.

Auditions will be held for singers and dancers ages 5 to 12. Those auditioning may be asked to sing and should be ready to participate in a dance call (jazz and/or tap shoes). No prepared dance or vocal solos, please.

The dates for this year’s performance are:
Nov. 15,16 and 17 – Ohio Northern University performances
Nov. 30; Dec 1 and 2 – Lima performances.

 

Bulldog boys take down Lancers

ADA - The Ada boys soccer team defeated visiting Northwest Conference foe Lincolnview 3-1 Tuesday evening at the park.

The Bulldogs improved to 3-2 overall and 1-0 in the NWC with the victory.

Sophomore Jacob Poling scored a goal off a Jon Allen assist.

Junior Skylar Williams netted a goal from Chris Reyes. Sophomore Jacob Thaxton scored the other goal from a feed by Wyatt Rettig.

Junior keeper Drew Hadley made six saves in goal.

The Bulldog reserves also beat Lincolnview in a half game, 2-0. Poling and Andrew Rush tallied the Ada JV goals.

Ada (2-2 home) plays host to NCOSA foe Cory-Rawson Thursday, September 13.

World War I topic of today’s talk

To mark the 100th anniversary of the end of World War I, Dr. Karl Roider will teach a course on the Great War at the Ada Public Library beginning today (Wednesday). His first talk will be on the Origins of War at 3:30 p.m.

 

All are welcome, and the program is free of charge.

 

Dr. Roider is retired professor and dean at Louisiana State University. He grew up in Ada where his father served as ONU music department chair for many years. He returned to Ada several years ago following retirement.

 

The other Wednesday session titles are:

Runner of the week

Ohio Northern senior All-American Ian McVey (Stow/Munroe Falls) was named the Ohio Athletic Conference Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week for the week of Aug. 30-Sept. 2.

 

McVey won the Bluffton 6k by more than 23 seconds, cruising across the finish line in 18:52.

He has now led ONU across the finish line in 11 consecutive races, dating to the 2016 season.

McVey has now won the honor three times in his career.

The Polar Bears will return to action Saturday at the Calvin (Mich.) Knight Invitational.

Men’s soccer player of the week

Ohio Northern senior keeper William Velotta (Gates Mills/Gilmour) was named the Ohio Athletic Conference Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for the week of Aug. 30-Sept. 2.

 

Velotta allowed only one goal in 200 minutes of play, helping ONU post a 1-0-1 record in its first two games of the season.

The Polar Bears will return to action this weekend when they host the annual ONU Invitational with matches against Hope (Mich.) on Friday and No. 8-ranked Calvin (Mich.) on Saturday.

ONU volleyball plays at home Wednesday
