Swim and dive teams rate high nationally in academics

 For the second time in the last three years, both the Ohio Northern men's and women's swimming and diving teams have been named College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America teams.

The Polar Bears highlighted the list of more than 700 teams across the country to receive the honor.

Both the men and women's team last earned the honor during the 2014-15 swimming and diving season.

In total, 720 teams, representing 443 institutions achieved a grade point average of 3.0 or higher during the Spring 2017 Semester.

Emily Richards in women's 800-meter run

 Ohio Northern junior All-American Emily Richards (Delaware Hayes) advanced through the first round and into the semifinals of the women's 800-meter run at the 2017 United States Track & Field Outdoor Championships at a blistering hot Hornet Stadium on Thursday afternoon on the campus of California State-Sacramento.

Richards finished third in her heat in 2:03.61 and was 14th overall.

Vancrest residents celebration national Ice Cream Soda Day

Folks at Vancrest Ada enjoyed sodas on Tuesday to celebrate National Ice Cream Soda Day.

Here, Jane Coburn (left) and Colleen and Howard Schick share a soda, like kids did in the old days when there were drive-ins and you ordered through a speaker, then the food was brought to you by servers on roller skates. Who invented the soda?

There are many claims to the invention of this delicious treat.  One such claim was made by a Mr. Robert McCay Green. 

State Medical Board suspends license of Bluffton rheumatology physician

FROM BLUFFTON ICON - Dr. James Alan Gideon, M.D, Bluffton rheumatology and internal medicine physician, whose office is at 132 Garau St., has been suspended from medical practice and surgery after he admitted to sexual misconduct with patients.

The State Medical Board of Ohio has banned him from medical and surgery practice until it holds a hearing on his case. No hearing date has been set.

The suspension follows a June 14 board meeting where members determined that Dr. Gideon had violated a section of the Ohio Administrative Code.

Here's ODOT construction projects in Hardin County

The following is highway construction scheduled within Hardin County.

Bridge repairs
State Route 31 closure between township Road 265 and state Route 273 has been delayed until late summer. Work will begin once a project on state Route 195 south of McGuffey has been completed.

Once under way, the project will close the route for 60 days for bridge repair at two locations: one over Painter Creek just south of township Road 206, the second over Wolf Creek north of township Road 265. Traffic detoured onto state Route 292 and state Route 273 back to state Route 31. Work is being performed by Crossroads Construction, Cambridge. (See detour map 1, map 2)
