Teen Dating Violence Awareness event

A Teen Dating Violence Awareness event will take place during the Ada/Kenton boys basketball game in Ada on Saturday, Jan. 28. Students from both schools are encouraged to wear orange.

The Hardin County Family Safety Coalition, sponsors of the event, will have an information table available. Facts to discourage teen dating violence will announced at the beginning of the game and at halftime. Cheerleaders will throw out mini basketballs. Local businesses have provided money so both teams can wear orange socks.

ONU women swimmers wrap up season

The Ohio Northern women's swimming and diving team wrapped up its regular season with a tri-meet at Case Western Reserve with Hillsdale (Mich.) on Saturday afternoon at Veale Natatorium. The Polar Bears (4-6 overall) fell to Case 243-54 and were topped by Division II Hillsdale 201-83.

J.R. and Linda Mason have purchased the N Men's building and are remodeling it for a party place called the Center on Central. Old-timers will recall the one story structure at 111 Central Ave. as Hal and Jean's Restaurant, built by Hal and Jean VanAtta in 1962, a time when Ada had few eating-out places. Twenty years later, the restaurant was purchased by the N Men's Association and used for Thursday night bingo and as a rental place for parties.

ONU's women's basketball jumps three spots to No. 8 in D3Hoops.com poll

Moves to No. 7 in WBCA poll

The Ohio Northern women's basketball team has moved up three spots to No. 8 in the eighth D3Hoops.com poll, released Monday evening.

The Polar Bears continued their winning ways last week with victories over Heidelberg and Mount Union to remain unbeaten.

Northern (17-0) is one of eight unbeaten teams in the poll.

Tufts (Mass.) held on to the No. 1 spot with 613 points and 15 first place votes, while Amherst (Mass.) remained at No. 2 with 601 points and six first place votes and St. Thomas (Minn.) moved into third place with 565 points and one first place vote.

Northern also moved up two spots in the Women's Basketball Coaches Association poll to No.7.
