Baseball: Corey McMann goes 5-for-6 with a home run and 4 RBI

Here are weekend ONU softball and baseball updates.

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS — Junior Corey McMann (Flower Mound, Tex./Liberty Christian) went 5-for-6 with a home run and 4 RBI in game one to lead the Ohio Northern baseball team at John Carroll on Saturday at Schweikert Field.

The Polar Bears (3-7 overall, 2-4 Ohio Athletic Conference) pounded out 22 hits to win the opening game of the double header 21-10.

The Blue Streaks (7-3, 4-2) won the nightcap 7-0.

Sophomore Jacob Wenning (Coldwater) was 4-for-5 with 4 RBI and senior Matthew Burkett (Maumee) was 3-for-6 with a home run and 4 RBI in the opener.

5 from ONU named All-Great Lakes Region in men's track and field

ADA — Five Ohio Northern student/athletes were named All-Great Lakes Region in Men's Indoor Track & Field for 2021 by the USTFCCCA.

Senior Sam Krabacher (Hamilton/Badin), juniors Andrew Buderer (Oak Harbor), Nate Dean (Euclid/Villa Angela-Saint Joseph) and Luke Shellhaas (Greenville/Versailles) and freshman Keegan Digby (Bowling Green/Otsego) all received the honor.

To earn All-Region honors, an athlete must be one of the top-5 individuals in their respective region on the final TFRRS Descending Order List. In addition, each member of a region's top-3 relay team was also selected for distinction.

Brady Hahn scored 5 TD in ONU win over Capital

BEXLEY — Senior Brody Hahn (Louisville) accounted for five touchdowns and 418 yards of total offense to lead the Ohio Northern football team to a 47-6 victory at Capital on Friday night at Bernlohr Stadium.

The Polar Bears improve to 2-0 overall and are 2-0 in the Ohio Athletic Conference, while the Crusaders fall to 0-3, 0-3.

Hahn threw for 312 yards and two scores and ran 11 times for 106 yards and three touchdowns to lead the ONU offense.

Junior All-American Brock Martin (Attica/Seneca East) ran 16 times for 75 yards and a score. He also caught a pass for 40 yards and returned a kickoff for 20 yards to account for 135 all-purpose yards.

Wind turbine comes down following Friday fire

Jamie Hall, Ada village administrator, provided the Icon with several photos of the Ohio Northern University wind turbine that caught on fire early Friday morning.

Here's what we know about the fire today:
Ada-Liberty Township Fire Department was called to a wind turb fire reported at 4:31 a.m., Friday morning (March 26), according to the Ada police report.

The turbine at Klingler Road and County Road 50 is one of three on the Ohio Northern University campus.

Ada thinclads eager to get back on track in 2021

ADA - The Ada track and field team features 37 athletes on its roster under eighth-year head coach Tyler Craig. 

A total of 19 boys and 18 girls comprise the squad, with just two seniors, both girls. Twelve juniors - six boys and six girls - aling with eight sophomores and 15 freshmen round out the roster.

"We are very excited to have a season," said coach Craig. "We have pretty decent roster numbers."     

"We are very fortunate to have a really good group of kids who work hard and don't complain," Craig noted. "They are good workers."

A deep class of juniors will help the boys squad compete well.
