Free community meal Wednesday

Outreach program of Sugar Grove United Methodist and St. Mark Lutheran

St. Mark Lutheran Church and Sugar Grove United Methodist Church will hold its "Free Community Meal"  Wednesday, March 31. The meal will be served at St. Mark, 125 S. Johnson St., Ada.

The meal will be served drive up/walk up only and is free to the community.  The menu includes ham, scalloped potatoes, green beans, fruit and cookie.

The meal runs from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Current safety protocols will be observed.

In February 72 meals were provided through this monthly program.

Spring is busting out

ONU wind turbine blaze

Ada-Liberty Township Fire Department responses to early morning fire

Ada-Liberty Township Fire Department was called to a wind turb fire reported at 4:31 a.m., Friday morning (March 26), according to the Ada police report.

The turbine at Klingler Road and County Road 50 is one of three on the Ohio Northern University campus.

According to Northern Review @NorthernOnLine, Klingler Road and part of the “Green Monster” were temporarily blocked off as crews attempted to put out the blaze.

According to the police report (see below) seven vehicle responded to the fire, including one patrol car and an EMS vehicle.

New Ada net coach to build around Wills, newcomers

ADA - After missing last season due to the coronavirus pandemic, experienced local tennis coach and player Dexter Woods takes over the Ada boys tennis program this spring with some returning and new talent on the 2021 roster.

The sixth season of Bulldog varsity spring tennis hopes to continue the success of the program-record 14-win season of 2019. Last spring's campaign promised to be a successful one before being washed out.

"We've got a mix of youth and experience, but most of the players are inexperienced," said Woods.

ONU women's track update

Senior Stella DeWitt (Weston/ Cardinal Stritch) and junior Kayla Silva (Westerville/ South) were named All-Great Lakes Region in Women's Indoor Track & Field for 2021 by the USTFCCCA.

To earn All-Region honors, an athlete must be one of the top-5 individuals in their respective region on the final TFRRS Descending Order List. In addition, each member of a region's top-3 relay team was also selected for distinction.

Silva was named All-Region in both the 60 and 200-meter dash events after earning All-Ohio Athletic Conference honors in each.

She is the school record holder in the 60 and is now a two-time All-Region honoree in the event.

ONU men's spring sports update

Here’s an update on ONU men’s spring sports.

Lacrosse
Senior Cameron Marous (Brecksville/Brecksville-Broadview Heights) scored a goal and added three assists to lead the Ohio Northern men's lacrosse team in a 10-7 Ohio Athletic Conference loss to Baldwin Wallace on Saturday afternoon at Dial-Roberson Stadium.

The Polar Bears fall to 3-2 overall and are 2-1 in OAC action, while the Yellow Jackets improve to 5-0, 3-0.

Northern scored four consecutive goals to grab a 4-2 lead with 13:07 left in the first half.
