Ohio Covid-19 update

Spring events, provider expansion, new health equity website

Ohio Governor Mike DeWine and Lt. Governor Jon Husted today provided the following updates on Ohio's response to the COVID-19 pandemic. 

SPRING EVENTS

Governor DeWine today announced a loosening of restrictions for sporting and entertainment venues when safety protocols are followed.

Dorothy Rayl was a resident of Vancrest of Ada

Dorothy Marie Rayl, 81, passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 24, 2021, at 5:40 p.m. at Vancrest of Ada.

She was born on March 20, 1939, in Bluffton, Ohio, to the late Lester and Kathryn (Morehead) Ackerman.  On June 15, 1957, Dorothy married Gerald Rayl who survives in Ada.

Dorothy is also survived by her two sons and daughter: Kevin (Karen) Rayl, Rodney (Wendy) Rayl and Rebecca Rayl all of Ada; and three grandchildren: Andrew Rayl, Jacob Rayl and Eli Esguerra. 

She was preceded in death by her brother, Richard Ackerman.

Ada school staff and teachers receive vaccines Friday morning

ONU HealthWise Pharmacy administering the clinic • School will be delayed until 10:35 a.m.

Ada will have a scheduled 2-hour school delay on Friday, Feb. 26, according to Meri Skilliter, superintendent. School will begin at 10:35 a.m.

Members of the Ohio Northern University HealthWise pharmacy staff will administer the first round of covid-19 vaccines to staff and teachers from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m.

"We are grateful for Ohio Northern University in being a wonderful neighbor and partner, not just in arranging our vaccinations, but also in other areas throughout this pandemic," said Skilliter.

The vaccine clinic was originally planned for Feb. 19. The winter storm of last week caused a shipment delay and the event was moved to Feb. 26.

Ada show choir fest' Saturday

Ada Varsity Singers are hosting a virtual exhibition with show choirs from Kenton, St. Clairsville and Alliance. The feed is available for $10 by creating an account and logging into: app.wosn.tv search for "Ada Show Choir Festival." The festival performance is at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 27.

Ada boys fall to NB in sectionals

After the first period, Ada was only outscored 44-43

NEW BREMEN - Visiting Ada built a big deficit after the first period, yet battled back before losing 64-46 to New Bremen in Div. IV sectional first round boys basketball action Wednesday night.

The loss ended the Bulldog season with a 3-19 record.

Ada scored first on a three-point goal by senior guard Jacob Poling, but NB then ran off 20 consecutive points to grab a commanding 20-3 lead after the first period of play.

Eight turnovers plagued the Bulldogs in the opening stanza. Ada rallied and cut the lead to nine a few times, but never got closer than that margin the rest of the game.
