ONU women's soccer player gains national accolade

Ohio Northern senior Hannah Reich (Howell, Mich.) has been tabbed a First Team All-American by the United Soccer Coaches for her efforts during the 2017 season.

Reich, a four-year starter as a defender, started in 79 of 80 career games, while appearing in all 80 games. She collected her first All-Great Lakes Region accolade for her career this season after being dubbed a First Team All-Great Lakes Region member.

The senior is a 4-time All-Ohio Athletic Conference honoree and a two-time First Team-All OAC selection. She was also named the OAC Defender of the Year for her efforts this season.

Reich was a key asset to a Polar Bear defense that set a school record with 14 shutouts this season, breaking a 20-year old mark from 1997. Northern also tied the school record for consecutive shutouts with seven straight shutouts during the regular season.

This year's NCAA Division III All-Americans, along with their families and coaches, will be formally acknowledged for their accomplishments at the United Soccer Coaches All-America Luncheon on January 20, 2018 at the Pennsylvania Convention Center in conjunction with the 2018 United Soccer Coaches Convention in downtown Philadelphia.

ONU saw a historic NCAA III Tournament run come to an end as it bowed out of the tournament in the Elite 8 round after dropping a 1-0 decision to No. 5-ranked Hardin-Simmons (Tex.).
