3 on women’s swim/dive team gain OAC academic honors
ONU seniors Maggie Dempster (Akron/Firestone) and Kasey Mucher (Arlington, Tex./Oakridge) and junior Kierra Watson (Brownsburg, Ind.) were named Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference in women's swimming & diving for 2017-18.
Award winners must be a sophomore or higher in class standing, maintain varsity status and have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.50.
Dempster is a three-time Academic All-Conference honoree and is majoring in pharmacy.
She was a diver her first two seasons at ONU and competed in the fly, back and I.M. events the past two seasons.
In her career, Dempster scored 39 points at the OAC Championships.
Mucher is majoring in pharmacy and is also a 3-time Academic All-OAC honoree.
A versatile swimmer, she has contributed points at the OAC Championships meets in the I.M., back, free and fly events.
Mucher has scored 109 team points in her four OAC Championships appearances.
Watson is a two-time Academic All-Conference award winner and is majoring in pharmacy.
She is a 10-time All-Conference honoree, earning All-Conference kudos in the back and I.M. events and on ONU's 200 and 400 free relay and 200 medley relay teams.
Watson has scored 208.5 team points in her three OAC Championships meets.
Ohio Northern finished 5-4-1 overall and were third in the OAC regular season standings with a 2-2 record in 2017-18. ONU finished fourth at the 2018 OAC Championships under 14th-year head coach Peggy Ewald.
