Lady Bulldogs bomb Tigers

WAYNESFIELD - The visiting Ada softball team blasted three home runs and banged out a season-high 18 hits to crush Waynesfield-Goshen 17-5 in a non-conference game Tuesday evening.

Ada improved to 5-1 with their fourth victory in a row. The explosive Lady Bulldog offense has plated 33 runs in their last two wins, and they scored in every inning at W-G.  

 

The Bulldogs jumped ahead with four runs in the first inning, then put it well out of reach with back-to-back five-run frames in the fifth and sixth.

 

Senior catcher Sydney Newland hit a home run, singled twice, scored two runs and knocked in a season-best five runs to pace the offense.

 

Slugging senior third sacker Maddie Gossard slammed a home run and two singles. She drove in three runs while scoring twice.

 

Senior outfielder Teara Coulson slapped three singles and scored twice.

 

Junior infielder Raina England clubbed her second homer of the season, singled, scored twice and plated two runs.

 

Senior shortstop Olivia Alexander scored three runs and added a single. Senior outfielder Kaiti Newland hammered a triple and scored two runs.

 

Junior outfielder Alexis Ennis drove in two runs with a pair of hits, and sophomore infielder Sidney Gossard singled.

 

Freshman Tori Green drilled a two-run double off the bench, and scored a run. Freshman Leona Dalton knocked in a pair of runs with a hit. Sophomore Melina Temple also scored a run, as did senior Maddie Preston.

 

Southpaw Kaiti Newland pitched the first four innings to earn the win. She struck out four, walked six, allowed four hits and gave up five earned runs.

 

Maddie Gossard hurled two innings of hitless relief to finish the game. She whiffed one and walked one.

 

The Lady Bulldogs out-hit W-G, 18-4.

 

Cyd Roberts led W-G with three hits and four RBI.

Ada (4-1 road) is slated to visit non-league foe Shawnee (3-0) Wednesday.

 

The Bulldogs (2-0 NWC) host Delphos Jefferson (0-5, 0-2 NWC) Thursday in another league contest.
