6 ONU women athletes receive regional honors

The Ohio Northern women's track and field team landed six athletes on the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Div. III Outdoor All-Great Lakes Region list for their efforts during the 2018 outdoor season.

The top-5 individuals in each event from each region earned All-Region distinction, in addition to each of the members of the region's top-3 relay teams. The regions used for this award – Atlantic, Central, Great Lakes, Mideast, Midwest, New England, South/Southeast, West – match those used during the cross country and indoor track & field season.

Senior Emily Richards (Delaware/Hayes) led the way, earning the honor in four events, while juniors Avery Ewing (Kokomo, Ind./Eastern) and Taylor Fisher (Wapakoneta) and sophomore Taylor Lavey (New Baltimore, Mich./Findlay) each earned the honor in two events, while junior Maddy Reed (Piketon) and sophomore Maggie Krause(Chagrin Falls/Kenston) earned the honor in the pole vault.

Richards, now a 21-time All-Great Lakes Region honoree and current 5-time All-Great Lakes Region Athlete of the Year, earned All-Great Lakes Region honors in the 400-meter run, 800-meter run, 1,500-meter run and the 4x400-meter relay.

The senior will compete in the 800 and 1,500-meter runs this weekend at the 2018 Outdoor NCAA Div. III National Championships and owns the fastest time nationally in each event entering the meet. She will also compete in the 4x400-meter relay this weekend.

Ewing earned her second and third All-Great Lakes Region honors after being named All-Region in the 800-meter run and the 4x400-meter relay.

The junior earned All-Ohio Athletic Conference honors in the 800-meter run at the 2018 Outdoor OAC Championships after finishing second in the race.

She will also join Richards as they compete in the 4x400-meter relay this weekend at the 2018 Outdoor NCAA Div. III National Championships.

Fisher also earned her second and third All-Region honors, after being named All-Great Lakes Region in both the 400-meter hurdles and the 4x400-meter relay.

The junior garnered All-OAC honors in the 400-meter hurdles at the 2018 Outdoor OAC Championships with a third place finish in the event. She joins Ewing and Richards as they compete in the 4x400-meter relay this weekend at the 2018 Outdoor NCAA Div. III National Championships.

Lavey, now a 5-time All-Great Lakes Region honoree, earned the honor in the 100-meter dash and 4x400-meter relay.

The sophomore finished second overall in the 100-meter dash at the 2018 Outdoor OAC Championships and was a part of the OAC Champion 4x400-meter relay team.

She will complete the group of four 4x400-meter relay athletes to compete in the 2018 Outdoor NCAA Div. III National Championships this weekend.

Reed, a 3-time All-American in the pole vault, earned All-Great Lakes Region in the pole vault for the sixth time in her career.

The junior holds both the indoor and outdoor the pole vault records at ONU and will look to become a 4-time All-American and chase a national title in the pole vault as she competes at the 2018 Outdoor NCAA Div. III National Championships this weekend.

Krause becomes a 2-time All-Great Lakes Region honoree after garnering the honor in the pole vault.

The sophomore will make her second consecutive appearance at the Div. III National Championships as she owns the sixth best qualifying mark entering this weekends meet and will look to earn the first All-American honor of her career.

Each of the six athletes to earn All-Great Lakes Region honors will compete at the 2018 Outdoor NCAA Div. III National Championships this weekend in La Crosse, Wis.
