Softball ends season 29-9

LEXINGTON, Ky. — The Ohio Northern softball team dropped a hard-fought 3-0, 3-2 twinbill at Transylvania (Ky.) in its regular season final on Monday evening at John & Donna Hall Field.

The Polar Bears fall to 27-9 overall, while the Pioneers improve to 30-6.

Defense took over game one, as the two teams hit a combined five hits.

The Pioneers were able to score three runs in the bottom of the third inning and would hold on to claim the game one victory.

Transylvania was able to score the first run of the second contest before sophomore Mallory Taylor (Olmsted Falls) drove in a run with an RBI double in the top of the fourth inning to knot the game at 1-1. 

In the same inning, junior pitcher Kaitlin Surdej (Lancaster/Central) would give ONU a 2-1 lead with an RBI single.

TU was able to answer in the bottom half of the fourth inning to knot the game at 2-2, before hitting a walkoff single in the bottom of the seventh inning to complete the game two victory.

Senior Leanna Henry (West Jefferson) went 2-for-3 with a run scored to lead ONU in game two.

Northern returns to action this Friday as it takes on No. 2-seeded Heidelberg in the opening round of the Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament in Westerville at host Otterbein University.
