Ada High School baseball coach Campbell will have a youth baseball camp for anyone in grades 7th and 8th Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, June 4 to 6. There are forms in the high school office for any 7th or 8th grader who would like to attend the camp.

Sunday was a pretty good day for fishing. Just ask Robbert Tidd of Ada. Tidd caught the number one tagged trout at Bluffton's annual trout derby on Sunday.

The fish was caught during derby hours and Tidd took home $1,157.50, which was one-half of the 50-50 raffle held following the derby.

One other Ada fisherman, Mark Schlachter, caught trout number 229 at the derby. This year's derby, held May 6, was the 68th annual event sponsored by the Bluffton Sportmen's Club and held in the Bluffton Buckeye Quarry.

Preparations area underway for this year's Ada Music Boosters spring fever follies.

The event is at 6:15 p.m., Friday, May 18, in the Ada High School auditorium. Tickets are $5.

A barbecue chicken dinner is at 5 p.m. prior to the follies. For $12 persons may obtain a dinner, show and raffle ticket. Chicken dinner tickets are now on sale at the Ada High School office or from AHS musicians until May 9. 

Show tickets are $5 and available until May 18 in the office, from any AHS musician or at the door. 

Dr. Albert Tewfik Awad, 83, died at 2:52 p.m. May 3, 2012, at St. Rita's Medical Center.

He was born Nov. 25, 1928, in Cairo, Egypt. In 1958, he married Elvira Nashid Sawiris, who survives in Ada.

Services for M. Kay Howard will be 11 a.m. Friday at the Hanson-Neely Funeral Home in Alger by Pastor David Schneer. Burial will be in Preston Cemetery in Alger.

She died at 2:30 p.m. Monday, April 30, 2012 at her home.
She was born Nov. 26, 1955 in Hardin County to John and Corsie (Prater) Bailey. Her father preceded her in death and her mother survives in Ridgeway. On Dec. 24, 1973, she married Ronald Howard and he survives in Kenton.

 

The Ohio Northern women's tennis team advanced in the 2012 OAC Tournament following a 6-0 quarterfinal round win over Muskingum on Tuesday at University Courts.

The win moves the top-seeded Polar Bears to 20-4 on the season, while the Muskies end the 2011-12 campaign at 4-11.

Northern was able to get the victory outdoors even with the threat of rain moving into the area. ONU started with a sweep of doubles courts, as junior Christie Gales and sophomore Michelle Tuma won No. 1 doubles, 8-0.

A Lotta Love Pet Rescue, a tax-exempt animal welfare organization, will hold its annual "Mutt Strutt and Canine Carnival" fund raising dog walk on Saturday, May 19, in the Farout Park Amphitheater in Lima, according to David Baumgartner of Bluffton.

Darcey Schneider of Rhythm in Motion Dance Centre, Main Street, Ada, reminds Icon viewers to stop in the Centre on Saturday, May 5, anytime from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. to purchase tickets for the Centre’s spring recital and to obtain information on fall classes.

Schneider said that the spring show is at 3 p.m., Saturday, June 2, at Lima Senior High School. All seats are reserved. Pre-sale tickets are $9 on May 5. After the 5th tickets are $11 each.

Stratton Greenhouses invite Icon viewers to its spring open house Friday through Sunday, May 4-5-6.

The popular greenhouse at 9915 Lincoln Highway is open Mondays through Fridays from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., Saturdays, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sundays in May.
