Have you ever wondered where those freight trains that pass through Ada are headed? Can you even name the railroad?

Reflections on becoming aquainted with Ada.

Okay, I’m an outsider. Only 12 miles to the northwest. I live in Bluffton and am learning the ins and outs of the community of Bulldogs to the south. And, I'm starting to become recognized. During the high school homecoming football game a student pointed to me and said: "Hey, aren't you that Icon guy?"

So, I am becoming noticed and am picking things up rather quickly – at least I think so. For example, here’s some of the items scribbled in my reporter’s notebook from a recent day spent in Ada:

The Hardin County Historical Museums is seeking people interested in serving on the Board of Trustees.  A trustee serves four years.  Trustees must be interested in history, willing to serve on committees, attend monthly board meetings and support the mission of the Museum.

Many of events and activities at the Museum are in the evening and on Saturday and Sunday.  Trustees are encouraged to help plan and participate in those events.  Trustees must also be members in good standing of the Museum.

If you are interested please contact the Museum at 419-673-7147 or e mail [email protected] by Nov. 15.

Between the temperatures and the autumnal light, October is turning out lovely. According to statistics collected by local weather observer Guy Verhoff, for the first 18 days of October high temperatures were 65 degrees (F) or warmer.  Twice during that time the high temp was 79 degrees. It's only been in the last few days that we are shifting away from that.

Fall days have fall nights and those temperature are staying lower.   In fact, October night time lows have been in the 40's for 14 of 21 days.

Never mind the H20 - Ohio Northern University celebrated its 2013 homecoming wet and dry.

Everything went off without that wet hitch. There was a homecoming queen crowning, football game, health fair, Spielman walk/run, lots of food and music.

Donald Traxler captured some of the homecoming parade floats and bands. His photos are available in the photo scrapbook attachment at the bottom of this story.

Ada Bulldogs face a stiff challenge on the road Friday night when they take on league foe Delphos Jefferson (8-0, 5-0). The Wildcats are currently ranked 6th in the latest Division VI AP poll. The Bulldogs still have playoff aspirations, but they'll need to win at least one of the next two in order to ensure they don't miss the post season for the first time since 2005. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
