15 Minutes with Levi Klingler, 2013 AHS Graduate- Part One
By Bailey Bowers
What have you been up to since your graduation from Ada High School last May?
I'm home for the summer working at Honda Transmission in Russells Point as a co-op. In the fall, I'll return to The Ohio State University in Columbus where I'm studying mechanical engineering.
Brenda Purdy (center), winner of the Ada Music Boosters spring fund-raising raffle, claimed her prize at the Community Markets’ Ada store Friday morning by doing a 90-second shopping spree.
Brenda selected her daughter-in-law, Brandi Purdy, to run through the store on her behalf, and had the support of her grandson, Holden Purdy, at the event.
Bev Lenhart, of Community Markets, was the cashier. The Boosters thank the members of the community for a successful and award-winning school year for Ada’s many music education and performance-based programs.
Several Ada High School grads and students from neighboring communities are among 2014 graduates of Ohio Northern University. Here’s the list of area graduates:
Kyle Baker, son of Kent and Kathryn Baker, 502 Pleasantview St, Ada, received the Bachelor of Science in exercise physiology.
Baker was active in Phi Epsilon Kappa health, physical education and sports honorary, the men's football team, the Pre-Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy Club and the men's basketball team. Baker is a graduate of Ada High School.
Earlier this week members of the Ada Area Chamber of Commerce celebrated new member Ada Ohio Properties Ltd., a local family-owned real estate development company, with a ribbon cutting ceremony onsite at a recently completed rehab project located at 532 Grand Ave. across from Ada Schools.
Those in attendance toured the newly renovated single-family home, which had been in foreclosure and vacant for nearly a year, becoming an eyesore in the neighborhood, prior to Ada Ohio Properties’ acquiring it in November 2013.
Each week in June and ending in the first week of July, The Icon will post two photos revealing one letter (or number) taken from Main Street Ada buildings and structures. All photos were taken in May by the Icon’s official contest photographer, Bailey Bowers. The photos cover Main from College Avenue on the south to Highland Avenue on the north.
We invite Icon viewers to keep track of the letters by identifying each letter’s location. An entry form is attached to this story for viewers to keep up to date in the contest.
President Heather Cox called the weekly meeting of the Ada Kiwanis Club to order at 12 noon on Tuesday, June 10 at McIntosh Center, Ohio Northern University, Ada. Jon Umphress offered the invocation.
The Cessna Minutemen met on Tuesday, June 3rd at Walnut Grove Church. Zack Butler led The Pledge of Allegiance and Bradley Flowers let the 4-H pledge. The secretary, Kenzie Kater, read the roll. There were 16 members and many guests present.
Zachery Collins gave a demonstration on the power of magnets. Avery Collins gave a demonstration on money management. Members were reminded of camp sign up, the ordering of broilers and the county 4-H fishing derby.
Michael Harnishfeger, Ada police chief, provided the Icon with the Ada police call log from June 2-8. It is in the two attachments at the bottom of this story.
We start to see signs go up all over town around this time of year. Advertisements for garage sales, local events and contractor work are some of the most common signs we see throughout the summer. Having such signs visible is great for the event, sale or contractor, especially when the signs look nice.
Locations for the signs are crucial for visibility. However, there are some places that the signs are not permitted.
Per Ordinance 741.13, titled “Posting Bills,” hanging any kind of sign on trees, fences or utility poles on public grounds of the Village is not allowed, regardless of how those signs are hung.
The Buy Ada First Committee invites the community downtown on Friday night at the Ada railroad depot park. The event is from 6 to 8 p.m.
