A visit from Santa,
 a Christmas sing-along,  
  a jazz band concert,
   book discussion groups,
    plenty of potlucks,
     a chance to create a gingerbread house, 
      plus several interesting performances at The Freed Center.

Twenty-five school years ago, 1989-90 school year to be exact, these were the  Ada High School Student Council officers.

The Hardin County American Red Cross will hold a blood drive from 1:30-7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 3, at McIntosh Center, Ohio Northern University.

A line of strong thunderstorms is track across western Ohio this morning mixing down very
strong winds aloft.

At 7:45 a.m. radar indicated a line strong thunderstorms extending from Union City, Ohio
to Greensburg, Ind. This line of storms was moving to the northeast at 50 m.p.h. and will impact portions of western Ohio (Lima, Ottawa, Findlay, Kenton) with gusts as high as 65 m.p.h. in the next several hours.

Fireside Friday at the Inn: Enjoy live music and a delicious hot appetizer buffet every Friday night from 5-7pm. Reservations are not required, but are accepted.

Holiday Food & Wine Pairing will be on Thursday, Dec. 4, 6:30 pm. Relax with our elegant holiday food and wine pairing. You'll enjoy learning about and tasting new wines paired wonderfully with deliciously prepared foods. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Ada Rotary.

The Hardin County Chamber & Business Alliance and the Buy Ada First Committee will kick off the holiday season with the 25 Days of Christmas Buy Local Contest. 

The contest will begin on Monday, Nov. 24, and will run through Thursday, Dec. 18.  Beginning Nov. 24, each time you spend  money at a participating business you’ll get signed up to win a $500, $200, or $100 Chamber Gold gift certificate or one of over 30 great gifts.

A 2006 Pontiac G-6 is the current manager's special at Kirtland's Auto Sales, 302 N. Main St., Bluffton.

Ohio Northern University’s Freed Center for the Performing Arts presents the 20th annual ONU Holiday Spectacular from Thursday, Nov. 20, to Saturday, Nov. 22, at 7:30 p.m. There will be a matinee performance on Saturday, Nov. 22, at 2 p.m.

In addition, there will be performances at the Civic and Convention Center in Lima, on Friday, Dec. 5, at 7:30 p.m.; Saturday, Dec. 6, at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.; and Sunday, Dec. 7, at 2 p.m.

The show is underwritten in part by the DeBow and Catherine Freed Endowment for the Arts and Kewpee Hamburger.

Michael Chow, founder and owner of Metro CD Engineering in Powell, Ohio, was inducted into Tau Beta Pi as an eminent engineer during a ceremony held Nov. 9 by the Ohio Iota Chapter at Ohio Northern University.

Thirteen ONU undergraduates also were initiated into Tau Beta Pi by the Ohio Iota chapter, which was founded in 1973.

I’m not much of a city girl; I’ve grown quite fond of the quiet intimacy small towns like our own have to offer. After a weekend in Chicago, however, my mind feels subject to change… 

On Nov. 8, I traveled to Chicago with a group of students and professors from OSU-Lima. We went to watch a live, penultimate performance of Shakespeare’s King Lear at the Chicago Shakespeare Theater located on the Navy Pier.
