John Hohn, Director of Economic Development, Hardin County Chamber & Business Alliance presents George Hopkins, Director of The Cadets and CEO and Executive Director of Youth Education in the Arts, a custom NFL football from Wilson Sporting Goods.

Presenting with Hohn is David Dellifield, Director, McIntosh Center ONU.

The Cadets rehearsed at ONU for the Drum Corps International 2015 World Championships at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis. The Championship will be held Saturday and Sunday.

Several news announcements came from the recent Ada Kiwanis Club meeting.

• Shigehobu Yoshimoto, a guest of member Joe Ferguson, was welcomed to the meeting. He is a chaperone for the Labo program (sponsored by 4-H), which brings Japanese youth to the United Sates for an American experience.

• Long-time member Charles VanDyne was congratulated on being installed as Grand Esteemed Leading Knight at the recent Grand Lodge Convention of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks held in Indianapolis, Indiana. He will assume the position at the Grand Lodge’s session next year in Houston, Texas.

The Hardin County Humane Society will hold its 10th annual Poker Run For Animals Saturday, Aug.15. Registration begins at 10 am. First bike will go out at 11 a.m. and all will be back by 4 p.m.

An appreciation meal will be held at the end of the ride, and there will be a blessing of the bikes. Raffle tickets for a quilt will be available for purchase. Participants brining a bag of cat or dog food will be entered into a drawing for a gas card. 

All proceeds go the the Pet Food Pantry. For more information, call 419-674-3808.

Can you believe it? Ada's Harvest and Herb Festival is 30 this year. It's Saturday, Sept. 19.

Spaces are now being reserved for the 2015 Ada Area Chamber of Commerce Harvest and Herb Festival.

Ohio Northern was selected to finish third in the media poll and fourth in the coaches poll at the 2015 Ohio Athletic Conference Football Media Day on Tuesday afternoon at the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

ONU received 195 points in the media poll to finish third and 58 points in the coaches poll to finish fourth.

Mount Union was tabbed as the preseason favorite by both the media and coaches, collecting 25 first place media votes and 9 first place votes from the coaches.

Liberty Baptist Church will celebrate its 20th anniversary Sunday, Aug. 9. Special meetings will be held at 6:30 p.m., nightly from Wednesday, Aug. 5, through Saturday, Aug. 8, according to Dr. Lon A. Taylor, pastor.

Sunday service begins at 9:30 and 10:30 a.m. There will be a carry-in lunch after the morning service.

The church was officially formed Aug. 9, 1995. Gus Guthrie was the first pastor. On March 8, 1998, Lon Taylor became pastor. He and his wife, Shirl, will celebrate their 18th year with the congregation in March.

S.B. 243 enacted a one-time sales tax holiday to occur only in 2015. The holiday starts on Friday, Aug. 7, and ends on Sunday, Aug. 9.

During the holiday, the following items are exempt from sales and use tax:
•An item of clothing priced at $75 or less
•An item of school supplies priced at $20 or less; and
•An item of school instructional material priced at $20 or less.
Items used in a trade or business are not exempt under the sales tax holiday.

It’s an open house and you are invited.

Thursday, Aug. 20, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. the Ada schools are open for parents and students to meet their teachers, visit classrooms, locate lockers and meet school administrators.

The school is posting lots of back-to-school details on its website and the Icon has all that material.
