Owlsburg - once a school,  a church, a tractor dealership, and most recently a bar - gets a new lease on life as a family restaurant.

New owner David "Rico" Rodriguez plans to open Cherico's Restaurant at the corner of State Route 235 and Old Route 30. Target date for opening is November.

A major renovation is underway on the structure, probably 150 years old, with efforts to save some of the past handiwork such as the yellow pine floor and the stamped tile ceiling made of tin.

In addition to the first floor, a large room upstairs will be available for dining. Outdoor patios will be built on three sides.

The Ada Senior Citizens will sponsor a lunch and style show at noon on Wednesday, Sept. 23, at Community Health Professionals. It is not necessary to be a member of the group to attend the lunch and show.

Bon Worth, located in the Lima Mall, will provide the fashions to be modeled by club members.

Connie Guyton is event coordinator.

The Ohio Northern University Pettit College of Law will host a CLE on “Ethics, Professionalism and Substance Abuse” in the large moot courtroom on Friday, Sept. 25, at 12:45 p.m. The CLE will include three lectures from top professionals tackling different viewpoints on the topics.

Rain...trains...wide loads on State Route 235.

Don't remember the 30th annual Ada Area Chamber of Commerce's Harvest and Herb Festival with those scenes.

Instead, Scott and Arlene Allison, festival co-chairs, made certain that the show went on. And it did.

The typically high-powered Ada offense couldn't find its groove against a stifling Spencerville defense as the Bulldogs dropped their Northwest Conference opener to the Bearcats, 35-7.

Four interceptions and an injury to starting quarterback Seth Conley contributed to the road loss. Ada now finds itself 2-2 on the season and 0-1 in the NWC.

A Zach Goecke 51-yard touchdown run and a Wyatt Krouskop pick six got things rolling for the Bearcats early, as they would take a 13-0 first quarter lead.

Despite the rain, our 2015 Harvest and Herb Queen’s Court was shining bright.

The Ada Area Chamber of Commerce Harvest and Herb Festival Queen Committee would like to give a huge thank you to Mike and Marie Gossman for helping to decorate the float again this year and for escorting our 2015 Harvest and Herb Queen and her court in the 30th Annual Ada Area Chamber of Commerce Harvest and Herb Festival parade.

We would like to thank many, area businesses for their very generous donations for this year’s Queen and her court…

Harvest and Herb attendees:

30 years of a glorious fall festival in Ada Ohio, and this year we have 30 minutes of  “HOLY COW! What else can happen?”

Our typical, perfect, sunny, fall day was replaced this year with cloudy rain. Our traditionally spectacular parade was interrupted by a harder rain, wind, thunder, lightening and then literally divided in half by the railroad gates going down.

But the parade MUST go on, until an actual train of 100 plus cars decided to pass by. In the 30 years of the festival this was only the third train appearance.
