It starts in McIntosh Center - all children must be accompanied by adults

The annual trick or treat at ONU will begin with registration at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 23, in the McIntosh Center activities room. ONU students will then lead the youngsters through residence halls beginning at 5:15 p.m.

The event will also include dinner at 6 p.m. in the McIntosh Center ballroom and a costume contest and at 6:30 p.m. before wrapping up at approximately 7 p.m.
 
 The event, which is open to area children, is free and open to the public. Children of all ages are encouraged to dress up and join the fun. All children must be accompanied by an adult to attend the festivities.

Geographers find their compass at ONU conference
 
Approximately 100 geographers from colleges and universities in Ohio and Michigan will turn their compasses to an upcoming conference at Ohio Northern University on Thursday, Oct. 19, in McIntosh Center.

The association includes approximately 30 colleges and universities from Ohio and Michigan. ONU faculty members Katy Rossiter and Jimmy Wilson are coordinating the event.

Geography is everywhere, from the recent hurricanes to algae blooms in Lake Erie to gentrification in urban areas. Geographers can effectively make predications and understand patterns that help answer important questions about the world.

OAK HARBOR - The Ada boys soccer team defeated host Oak Harbor 2-1 Monday evening in the opening round of Div. III sectional tournament play.

The seventh-seeded Bulldog boys improved to 9-6-1 after the victory, and advance to the second round. Fourth seed OH finished 11-7-1 with the defeat.

Ada senior Chris Reyes tallied both Ada goals, each time on assists from Skylar Williams.

Bulldog junior keeper Drew Hadley was credited with six saves in goal.

Generally, about 20 to 25 dogs are available for viewing.

Interstate 75 reconstruction and widening through Findlay

The following impacts to traffic related to the reconstruction and widening of Interstate 75 through Findlay and Hancock County are scheduled to occur:

Oct. 15 - Lima Avenue under U.S. 68/state Route 15 will close for approximately one year

Early November -Entrance ramp from U.S. 68/state Route 15 to Interstate 75 southbound to close for one year

In Hancock Historical Museum’s Hull House

The Hancock Historical Museum will host an evening of fun for all ages at a Halloween “Spooktacular!” on Saturday, Oct. 20, from 5-8 p.m.  

Enjoy tours through the "haunted" Hull House, built in 1881. Sample seasonal treats cooked over the hearth in the historic Crawford Log House. Decorate pumpkins and cookies, or make a Halloween mask inspired by Findlay's own American Mask Factory.  

Children will enjoy spooky storytelling, face-painting, crafts and games. The Derrick Express Learning Bus, Children’s Museum of Findlay, and the Hancock Parks District will also be on-hand with activities for guests. 

Tuesday event in memory of those who lost their lives to domestic violence

Safe Haven of Hardin County Domestic Violence Center will have a bush planting in the Ada Railroad Park at 5:30 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 16, according to Deb Oestreich, program director.

“The bush will be in memory of those who have lost their lives to domestic violence and in honor of those who have survived,” she said.

Board members of the center will attend the ceremony, which is open to the public. The planting is in recognition of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, which is the month of October.

The Department of Theatre Arts of Ohio Northern University will present “The Wild Party” Oct. 18 through Oct. 21 in the Stambaugh Studio Theatre in the Freed Center for the Performing Arts. Performance times are 7:30 p.m. each day, with 2 p.m. matinee performances on Oct. 20 and Oct. 21. The show is for mature audiences
