Support Ada boys' tennis - in cooperation with Padrone's Pizza

The Ada High School boys' tennis team is sponsoring a dining in at Padrone's pizza, this weekend.

Persons can support the team by dining at Padrone's from 4 to 10 p.m. either Friday, Feb. 1, or Saturday, Feb. 2.

Make certain you mention the boys' tennis program when you order your pizza at the restaurant.

You can reach for the stars on Thursday evening

Weather permitting, Ada area girls “and their favorite adult” are invited to a “Reach for the Stars” evening at the Ada elementary school cafeteria from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 31.

The evening’s theme is being a space science explorer.

The program is by the Girl Scouts of Western Ohio. The event is for girls who are not currently participating in Girl Scouts this year.

Here’s what’s in store during the evening:
• create moon phases with cookies
• make a shadow poster
• make a star pattern of your own – in the shape of you

Funeral services for Richard Arnett, 79, of Harrod, will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, Feb. 1, at The Price - McElroy Funeral Home in Kenton with Pastor Kenneth VanHoose officiating.

Burial with military rites will follow in Preston Cemetery. Friends may visit 2 hours prior to the service on Friday, Feb. 1.

He died Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2019 at Lima Memorial Hospital. 

Wills scored 15 points to lead Ada. Poling added 11 markers and five steals, Blankenship scored six point.

ADA - Visiting Upper Scioto Valley used strong inside play and better foul shooting to hold off spunky Ada 48-36 in a hard-fought backyard rivalry girls basketball game Tuesday night.

The Lady Bulldogs fell to 1-16 with the defeat, while the Lady Rams improved to 2-12 with the win.

USV ran out to a nine-point lead, but Ada clawed back within 20-16 at halftime. The Rams earned a little breathing room with a 14-8 third period and basically held on to a double-digit margin the rest of the way.

Raegan Cox will compete in Ohio Has Talent on Feb. 23

A young performer with an Ada connection will perform in the Saturday, Feb. 23, Ohio Has Talent competition, at Niswonger Performing Arts Center, Van Wert.

Raegan Cox, 14, a Miller City HS freshman, is the performer. Her father is Craig Cox and mother is Heather Cox, assistant vice president/director of marketing at Liberty National Bank. Raegan has performed in Ada at several events including the Harvest and Herb Festival and Community Health Professionals Beacon of Hope.

She has been singing and entertaining people for most of her life. In 5th grade, she was accepted in an All-State Choir and performed with 88 other 4thand 5th graders at Capital University.

Classes, rehearsals, student activitiers, administrative offices

Ohio Northern University will be closed on Wednesday, Jan. 30 due to the National Weather Service Wind Chill Warning. All academic classes are cancelled, including rehearsals and student events. Administrative offices, including the Student Health Center, are closed.

McIntosh Dining will open tomorrow morning at 7:30 a.m. McIntosh Dining hours will be otherwise unaffected by the closure (menus subject to change). Wow Café will open at 4:30 p.m. and is expected to remain open until Midnight. Cosi at Northern will open at 7:30 a.m. and will offer uninterrupted service until 10 p.m.

Blame it on the weather

Ada school will be closed on Wednesday, Jan. 30, and Thursday, Jan. 31, due to low temperatures and wind chill, according to Meri Skilliter, superintendent.

The announcement was made on Ohio Alerts at 4:10 p.m. on Tuesday.
 

Robert T. “Tom” Rieman, 68, died on Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2019 at 9:54 a.m. at his residence in Ada.

He was born on Aug. 30, 1950, in Columbus Grove, Ohio, to the late Robert F. Rieman and Norma Jean (McBride) Rieman Hanson. 

Robert was a horse trainer for Green Tree Stables, Ada. 

He is survived by his son, Cole T. Rieman of Ada; a brother, Tony Rieman of Scottsdale, Ariz., and a sister, Jennifer (Jerry) Liebrecht of Peoria, Ariz.

A private family service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, P.O. Box 38, Ada, Ohio 45810 for the benevolence of the family.  

Anticipated temperatures of 15-below zero on Wednesday evening have forced the postponement of Ohio Northern's men's and women's basketball games with Baldwin Wallace to Thursday evening.

The Polar Bear men will now host the Yellow Jackets on Thursday evening at 7 p.m. at the ONU Sports Center and the Polar Bear women will travel to Berea for a 7 p.m. contest at Ursprung Gymnasium.
