Swimmers ages 5 to 18 invited

Sign-ups for the Ada summer swim team will be held Monday, April 29, and Wednesday, May 1, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Ada First United Methodist Church, 301 N. Main St.

Swimmers from ages 5 to 18 are invited. The cost is $55 per child, with a $5 credit for each additional family member. This cost includes one ad per family in the championship heat sheet.

A $10 late fee will be assessed for anyone registering after May 31.  A representative from Poco Loco Swim Shop will be available at the first sign-up on April 29 for swim suit orders, caps and/or goggles.

Lorena “Reni” Guyton, 78, died on Sunday, April 7, 2019, at 9:45 p.m. at Kenton Nursing & Rehabilitation.

Reni was born on Sept. 20, 1940, in Prestonsburg, Kentucky, to Oakie and Irma Edith (Horne) Wilcox and they preceded her in death.   

She retired from Honda in 2006. Reni attended the Mayo Technical College in Prestonsburg, Kentucky.  She was on the Women’s Bowling League in Ada for several years.

Reni is survived by her daughter, Lynn (Matthew) Miller of Harrod; and the light of her life her grandson, Levi (Fiancé, Makayla Reese) Miller.

Walter Brothers Auctioneers will hold a public auction at  10 a.m., Saturday, April 13, at 14624 County Road 60, Rawson. The auction is of the estate of Don Beaschler.

It includes household goods, shop tools, loader tractor, pick up and miscellaneous items. The entire list of items at the auction is listed below.

State Representative Jon Cross (R-Kenton)  announced his district office schedule to meet with constituents of Hancock, Hardin and (part of) Logan counties that make up the 83rd Ohio House district.

Locally, Rep. Cross will host district office hours each month at the main district libraries in Findlay, Kenton and Ada.

“It’s very important to stay connected to our communities and to the people of the 83rd district. I want to thank our libraries for allowing me to host office hours to meet with and assist constituents with state needs and discuss public policy,” he said.

April 18 by Bridge Home Health & Hospice

Social workers and care navigators from Blanchard Valley Health System (BVHS) will offer a brief presentation regarding advance care planning and advance directive forms at a National Healthcare Decisions Day event on Thursday,  April 18 from 9 to 11 a.m. 

This event will take place at 50 North, located at 339 E. Melrose Ave,, Findlay. The presentation will also provide individuals with assistance in the completion of advance directives.

On display at Friday's ONU multicultural fair

Members of the Ohio Northern University’s rich international community will showcase their nations’ offerings during the annual Multicultural Fair from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, April 12, in the ONU King-Horn Center gymnasium. The event is free and open to the public.

International students will display a range of traditional clothing, food samples, crafts and musical arts. Among nations that will be represented are China, Japan, Taiwan, Netherlands, South Korea, Kosovo and Saudi Arabia.

Do you know how Dixie and her husband, Dave Thompson, met?

They took an airplane ride over Bear Lake, Michigan, on their first date when he was 20 and she was 19. No wonder she says that it’s her favorite vacation spot.

Dixie graduated from Lima schools and attended Bluffton College following high school. She was a housewife until 1989 when she started working at Marimor. She worked there 10 years before retiring with her husband. 

She says that her favorite occupation was being a full-time mom. Dave and Dixie have four children, Danny, Denise, Debbie and Dawn.

She also says that her family has and will always be a very important part of her life.

Men's tennis

The Ohio Northern men's tennis team cruised past Heidelberg 9-0 in its 2018-19 Ohio Athletic Conference opener Wednesday afternoon at the University Tennis Courts in Ada.

With the victory, the Polar Bears even their overall record at 6-6 and improve to 1-0 in league action. The Student Princes fall to 0-3 on the season and 0-2 against OAC opposition.

During Wednesday's match, all nine Ohio Northern players recorded at least one win, including two wins each from sophomore Joji Imatomi (Yokohama, Japan/Kamakura Gakuen) and freshmen Noah Elliott(Hilliard/Davidson) and Andrew Cochran (Wooster).
