The ONU Healthwise Mobile Clinic will be at the Ada Public Library from 1 to 3 p.m. tomorrow, Wednesday, Oct. 23.
Services are offered at no cost to the patient and include immunizations, tobacco cessation, medication reconciliation, health education, and a variety of health screenings.
The ONU College of Pharmacy operates the clinic. Members of the organization visit Ada and most other communities in Hardin County several times a year, thanks to its partners, CVS and Mercy Health.

Football toss Friday afternoon could go into the record books

A quest to set a world record is on Ada's Friday calendar.

The quest is for the number of individuals tossing footballs at the same time. It will be pursued at 2 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 25, at Ada War Memorial Stadium.

The goal is for 1,000 pairs of individuals (2,000 people total) to toss and catch footballs at the same time.

The participants will line up along each five-yard line.

Ada High School Principal Dan Lee is spearheading the effort and is working with Guinness Book of World Record officials to certify the endeavor as a new event under the “mass participation” category.

Light is a middle hitter/blocker; Guagenti will play in the district all-star game

Ada junior middle hitter/blocker Megan Light was named second team All-District 8 in Div. IV for volleyball in voting by the area coaches.

The 5-11 Light led the Lady Bulldogs in kills and blocks this season. She also earned first team All-Northwest Conference notice for the second straight year in 2019.

Ada libero Kendal Guagenti was named to play in the Div. IV Senior All-Star game. She will play for the East team, coached by Wes Horstman of LCC and Columbus Grove's Adam Choi.

Guagenti led the Bulldogs in digs and aces, and was named honorable mention All-NWC.

Ada finished 10-13 and 2-6 in the NWC.

The Ohio Northern women's swimming and diving team opened its 2019-20 season with a fifth place finish at the Kenyon Relays on Saturday afternoon at the Steen Aquatic Center.

The Polar Bears finished with 36 points and were led by the 200-yard breast relay team of senior Katey Stuart(Ada), sophomore Lauren Shaw (Port Clinton), senior Libby Sartschev (Parma/Normandy) and junior Marisa Barton (Saint Charles, Mo./Duchesne). They finished fifth in 2:18.22.

Two other ONU teams posted top-10 finishes.

The 3x500-yard free relay team of junior Marissa Taylor (Granite Falls, N.C./South Caldwell), freshman Teagan Rasdall (Wooster) and Barton were ninth in 18:12.26.

The Hardin County Health Department will give flu shots in McGuffey next week, according to Kelsey Ralston of the health department.

Flu shots will be given from 1 to 3:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 1, in the Community Room of the McGuffey post office.

CONVOY - The injury-ravaged Ada football team could not stop the run and lost 63-12 at Crestview in Northwest Conference play last Friday night.

The hosts raced to a 35-0 lead and cruised past the Bulldogs, who dressed only 20 players for the game.

The purple and gold fell to 2-6 overall and 1-4 in NWC play with their third straight defeat. The Knights improved to 4-4 and 3-2 in league action with the lopsided win.

"I was very impressed with Brandon (Hull); he fights and gives you everything he has got," said Ada head coach Shawn Christopher. "He has a lot of talent, but his competitiveness is amazing.

Penny S. Emerick, 59, died on Saturday, Oct. 19, 2019, at 8:22 a.m. at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, Columbus.

She was born on Sept. 24, 1960, in Lima, Ohio, to the late Oren and Pauline “Pug” (Dyer) Wright. Penny was previously married to the late Tom Emerick and they were divorced. 

Penny worked for Chief Supermarket, Lima, as a cashier. 

She is survived by her brother, Tracy Wright of Kenton; two sisters: Sherry (Doug) Sauer of Findlay and Patty Burkheimer of Lima; five nieces and nephews: Scott Sauer, Lisa (Dennis) Messmore, Doug (Amber) Sauer, Jr., Chad (Katie) Burkheimer and Dyllan Burkheimer; and seven great nieces and nephews.

Jerry L. “Fred” Allen, 61, died on Thursday, Oct. 17, 2019, at 11:07 p.m. at Lima Memorial Health System.

He was born on May 11, 1958, in Kenton, Ohio, to the late Joe D. and Luella Rose (Lamb) Allen. 

Fred formerly worked for Nelson Packaging of Lima.  He was a 1977 graduate of Upper Scioto Valley High School.

He is survived by his two sons: A.J. Allen and Codey Allen both of Ada; a sister, Patty Haney of McGuffey; and his great niece Caley Haney who he loved with all his heart.
